Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 20, 2015 3:03 pm Hi guys, We just bought a house with external wall as Fibro. We can see the huge gaps between the subfloor and the ground from outside the house. The gap is also big between the stumps. We want to enclose most of them and just leave one access point with a small door covered, this can make the house looks better and also stop some animals from getting into. Can we lay some bricks to cover the gap? Re: Enclose the gaps between subfloor and ground 2Dec 30, 2015 4:28 pm Hi wykdy, It is not clear as to the stumps you mentioned, but I can say this... that brickwork needs footings or it moves just as does paving (with the soil)... up to 40mm variation between dry and moist soil in M classified soil areas. You must also ensure that there is ample sub-floor ventilation at the end of the in-filling... one standard 10 000 square millimetre vent per 1500mm perimeter was the old rule... now 6000 square millimetres per 1000mm perimeter as uniformly as possible. Do not forget these or you might have mould problems. The normal approach in the picture shown is to fix a batten each side of the opening and fix base boards with 25mm gaps or so across the opening. I suggest you ensure that there is a 50mm gap under the bottom one (and under the battens) to safeguard against termites (allow easy inspection) and use LOSP treated pine or better for longevity. Building Standards; Getting It Right! Is this acceptable in a new house build. Floors where installed by builder. Already chips in board and skirting is not flush 0 186 Jimbo73 I would use heaps of adhesive on each sheet and screw rather than nail. use as many as you like cheers Simeon 1 4064 |
