Hmmmm.... they can't hand over with the septic unconnected is what you meant to say, right? Usually the builder is responsible for connecting all services, and if you ask for a variation from whats agree in the contract , they usually have clauses to charge you more. Simple matter of reading your contract. Unless it says you can have certain parts of the build done independently with an appropriate cost reduction, you aren't going to have a win as the contract gives the builder the monopoly to arrange everything. Re: Having Septic system and HWS by others 3Dec 12, 2015 3:09 pm We did our own septic and underground tank and the builder did not charge anything, actually I think they were relieved that they didn't have to do it although their plumber did the final connection. So it is certainly not illegal to use someone else but probably is right that it needs to be collected before handover. They don't want any 'outside' trades doing any work associated with the house. We are negotiating with them at the moment. We are hoping that the septic people can come in during the build and the builder does the final connection to the house. Re: Having Septic system and HWS by others 5Dec 17, 2015 10:11 am Maybe the septic could be done before the build starts, that way no one is interrupting the builder? That is what we did.
