Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 09, 2015 1:22 pm Hi everyone, we are struggling at the moment to get a house design together that suits all our needs. We are wanting to build an acreage style home with a granny flat attached and have always thought putting the kids at the far end of the house in a 3 bed and activity room type quarters. As time has gone on we are starting to think by putting this at one end and our bed at the other we are wasting our view with bedrooms instead of living areas. So my question is to those who have this setup with younger or teenage kids how has it gone, are you too far away from the kids, would you do it differently next time ? Does it really make that much difference when really all you do is sleep in your room once they're in bed anyway ? Thank you Re: Kids Bedrooms at the other end of the house 2Dec 11, 2015 5:25 am I'm currently building so don't know what it will be like but we designed our house with our room at one end and the kids at the other, our house is only 16 metres long x 15 wide so it's not big anyway but we felt like having them apart was a good idea. Re: Kids Bedrooms at the other end of the house 3Dec 11, 2015 7:04 am We have just built with this design. We have yet to move in but i think this will work best when the kids r in their teens early adult years. Im anticipating that my kids will be home for some time so wanted to give them their own space and privacy. Not so sure if you had really young kids but works well for us. Re: Kids Bedrooms at the other end of the house 4Dec 11, 2015 7:44 am We are building an acreage house with this design (have small kids) as we like the idea of kids having their end and when they move out we don't need to worry about that end of house unless visitors! Our house is quite long but the plan really appealed to me due to this layout. Time will tell how it goes! Re: Kids Bedrooms at the other end of the house 5Dec 11, 2015 8:35 am We like on acreage and currently the bedrooms are all in one block (DS bedroom is about 4m down the hallway) in the new extension we will be approx 40m away. We expect DS will move into the new extension with us for a couple of years and then move back into the original section of the house when he is a little bit older. DS is 12 viewtopic.php?t=62083 Re: Kids Bedrooms at the other end of the house 6Jan 07, 2016 10:02 pm we have young kids (three under 5) and have them all at one end of the house with an activity room and us at the other end and it works fine. We went from a tiny house to this and it really worried us but has ended up working very well as once they are asleep we have the whole other end of the house (study/theatre room/main bedroom) to ourselves without worrying about noise. Thankyou for your reply , sorry I'm only responding now we have decided to go ahead and be separate ends of the house Hi, Have fun, remember bedrooms should feel relaxing and inviting, the last space you see before sleep and the first you see when you wake up.
