Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 01, 2015 3:56 pm Can anyone provide me with some pointers please on how difficult it is to install and internal door frame and door into a laundry that currently has no door? Ceilings are 2700 high and the width would accommodate an 820 door and frame. Walls are internal single fastwall brick. Can the door jamb/frame be fitted over wood bolted/screwed into the brick wall and then wood framing be inserted in the area above the door which can then be gyprock/plastered and painted? I know wood framing isn't traditional in WA builds but it's used in many other places... Advice welcome Thanks Re: Retrofitting a laundry door 2Dec 01, 2015 11:16 pm There's no problems fitting a door frame and then framing out the area above to gyprock it, I've done it often over here in the west. Did you want a steel door frame to match the existing or a timber frame? Does your cornice run across the the opening or return around the corner? It's easier to fit a timber frame and architraves as you can adjust it to suit the opening size. The only thing with this is it will look slightly different to the rest of the frames. I don't mind if it's steel or a timber frame. There's an old photo from during the build where you can see it's just a full height opening... Cornice runs across the opening so I know that would have to be cut/ altered. Good to know its all possible. Wish we'd had a door put in when we built!
