Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Problem builder, any advice? 21Dec 13, 2015 12:34 pm Update- Well PCI is still booked for tomorrow... Carpets are done, main floor tiling is done but half a dozen are missing (they ran out). Exterior paint is done but there is clearly a couple of spots on bottom of door frames they couldn't complete due to tilers aswell as a small portion of guttering with only a base coat done. Still missing window treatments and garage door. They have done all the taps and door handles but strangely they missed the bathroom basin taps. We are still missing fencing too which is problematic considering our house borders a public access walkway. I realise these are all relatively small issues but with PCI tomorrow I'm confused on how to handle this... The building company closes down on the 18th and the lease for our rental ends on the 21st so we NEED to be in by next weekend. What's my options? Ideally I'd like to do PCI, have them complete outstanding issues over the coming week, pick up keys on Friday and move in over next weekend. Is that even a possibility? I'm unsure of the logistics of "handover" and whatnot but does this seem like something I can expect? Re: Problem builder, any advice? 22Dec 14, 2015 5:02 am Hey Hopalot - you have all my empathy - I know exactly what you mean. I'm sorry I can't help/offer advice, I'm also in the 'wait and see' before Christmas holidays situation. Good luck Re: Problem builder, any advice? 23Dec 14, 2015 9:36 am Take a minute and consider the difficulties you've had with your builder whilst you still have payments to make and ask yourself if you think they'll get any better once you've made the final payment and taken posession. Re: Problem builder, any advice? 24Jan 09, 2016 9:14 pm How are you going?? Just lurking for an update as we had PCI on 1st dec 2015 and we still haven't had handover - who knows when we will be in our house. They put a rush on outstanding issues so they could do second PCI on the 21st (yes, 3 days after they officially closed down for Christmas). In the end they didn't finish installing the tap for my fridge, they didn't get flyscreens in and there is a couple of tiles under my gable which are installed, but not cemented in. We signed off on it so we could goto their secondary office to pick up keys. In their defence they did allow my painters in on the 16th to paint the interior while they had several trades on sight fixing issues. Overall the quality of the house is ok, the plastering is very average, with "scrape" marks visible in some areas. The tiling is good and so far I've not noticed any major issues. There has been a few post handover issues such as missing fencing... At no point were we told to book this ourselves. It wasn't until we got keys we were told this, shortly before we were told we should of booked it 8 weeks prior to moving in. The company in charge of it has been very understanding, putting our job top of the to do list since we are already in the home. Should be done next week. My current issue is NBN. For whatever reason my builder booked the install date and they booked it for the 18th of Jan (no internet for a month isn't ideal). When I asked them to cancel it so I could book an earlier date myself they said they would... But they didnt. When I called them after they got back from Christmas break to tell them not to bother cancelling it anymore cause its too late, I was contacted by a company called "Compass Communications" informing me they HAD to cancel the appointment now cause I've moved in. Apparently after handover it's my problem and they want nothing to do with it... Thankfully a lengthy phone call to NBN Co resulted in them manually requesting an earlier appointment for me and I've just been informed it'll be done on Monday. The most dissapointing part of all this is it sapped my excitement. I'm happy we are finally in and there is a light at the end of the tunnel but all that positivity surrounding decorating and making it a home has completely disappeared. Re: Problem builder, any advice? 26Jan 12, 2016 11:40 pm Hi - glad you are at least in your home. Take a rest and I hope you feel up to decorating soon. ( But I totally Know what you mean). You're wasting your time expecting results from builders to changes like this, they just couldnt be bothered to do a jot extra to help you out. You should have just told him to rebook it earlier, or just left it as is. Dont get involved with anything that is the builders repsonsibility. A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet. Who should we… 0 5800 Thank you so much. This has been very helpful. We definitely wish to settle and get these people out of our life. They are trying to charge us interest on late… 7 14242 It is in lake macquarie area and dimensions are width 14 m and depth 8 m and the slope is 1/5 going down from the road. 1 7071 |
