Has anyone had custom shelving / custom entertainment (TV) unit built?
I want to have low shelving built in underneath windows in 3 bedrooms of my apartment, as well as all the way along a long wide hallway, as well as a custom entertainment unit. All shelves must be adjustable. It's for CDs, DVDs and books mostly.
Has anyone had this done or has any recommendations for people? What is cheapest? Carpenter? Cabinetmaker? General handyman?

cabinet maker if youre looking for a laminex solution. This would likely be your most cost effective option. Otherwise get a custom furniture maker to make these for you. Then you can choose the wood and the finish. However this is also the MOST expensive option, but will look the best and if you use a nice hardwood (even a recycled one) you will have something that lasts for much longer. Depends on what youre really after

We have had our cabinet maker do this type of thing for us. in our last house we had a full height unit built in our living room to house the TV as well as everything that would normally go in a study (our house was too small to have a dedicated office) - filing drawers, cupboards with slide-out shelves for the lap-top, printer, etc., drawers for DVDs, pigeon-holes for bills, etc all hidden away. It was fantastic. I think a cabinet-maker has the most flexibility for doing all those little details.
