Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 17, 2008 9:51 am For those of you who have higher then normal ceilings did you put them right throughout your home? We are building a single storey home around 50sqs and have half decided to increase the ceiling height to 9ft - but do we do it right throughout or only in the living areas?
We had normal heights in our last home and in our current home (which is around 65yrs old) is has 12ft ceilings. 12ft are way too high - I can't change light bulbs which annoys me (have to wait for DH to come home!) and along with no insulation it always feels cold. Normal height are fine but the higher 9ft just adds that special feeling of space to the home. Re: Nine Foot Ceilings Question 4Jul 17, 2008 11:52 am To clarify my last post: by "higher than normal" I was assuming you meant 9ft or 2700 instead of standard 8ft or 2400, so our house is 9ft throughout.
If you meant "high" as in 4m like Mek's then ours are not high at all. Re: Nine Foot Ceilings Question 7Jul 17, 2008 12:16 pm We've gone for 2.7m throughout. On a single storey house I think it would be strange to have different ceiling heights unless you have a slight slope on your land.
E.g. if land slopes front to back and living areas are at the back - have 2.4m ceilings in bedrooms at front, then step down in the slab so you can have 2.7m ceilings at the back. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Nine Foot Ceilings Question 8Jul 17, 2008 12:43 pm Another option which I've seen in some displays, is to have a recessed ceiling in some rooms (like a niche only on the ceiling), this can look really good.
Or you could have a step-up to the kitchen (say), so the ceiling line is the same, but floor levels are different. Thanks mate. Yeah good points! Leaning towards Option 3 to get a bit extra space in the cabinets but not going too crazy high (and expensive). Would require a mini… 13 39682 I was quoting framing timber sizes from Australian Standard AS1684.4 Table A13 for 2700mm wall heights Tile Roof, single storey. This Australian Standard doesn't refer to… 8 7323 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 10410 |
