Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Nov 06, 2015 8:43 am Today is the day we met with our client liaison officer to discuss our new home proposal. A whole month after we saw first saw the salesman. I'm both excited and nervous and going in very aware that the chances are the 'official' quote (just for the house) is going to be a lot more than the salesman tossed about figures for the changes we made with him ($200 according to him to add in a 2.1 glass sliding door.......umm I think not). Its our last chance to make any changes before they start to charge us so need to get it right. So, flyscreens or security screens? We'ce opted for the flyscreens because we hate the honeycomb look but the budget doesn't extend to security mesh. Anyone else just gone for flyscreens? Re: Exciting Day Today, But Not Sure About This Change 2Nov 06, 2015 10:56 am I've got just fly screens on my house and am really happy with them. IMHO having the metal mesh of the "security" door interferes with the view and also how much security do those doors really provide? Having said that I don't live in a particularly high crime area. I do recall the salesman at my builder really trying to push me into upgrading to the security screens. In general with those sort of decisions have a look at the "things you forget" thread. My approach was to make changes to the house as I could afford and prioritising things that would be difficult/impossible to change in the future (for example higher ceilings) Good luck with the house building; it's an exciting time Re: Exciting Day Today, But Not Sure About This Change 3Nov 09, 2015 3:18 pm We only have flyscreens going on our house. I'm not really fussed about security screens or mesh - unless I was in a high crime area. Heck my current house doesn't even have flyscreens, so will be happy to have them again. You may find the costs are not much different - our sales person had a list of things people may change and next to it the price next to it already including the credit for the old thing and then the cost of the new thing. Sometimes the price difference in going up a size etc isn't really that much. I found my extras where for things like the more exxy tiles for splashback, upgraded underlay and extras we put into our electrical - that alone was an extra $3,000 on top of the allowance we had for it. All up we added about $7000 after doing all our choices etc on top of what we already had added to the sales contract. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Exciting Day Today, But Not Sure About This Change 4Nov 10, 2015 8:00 am Very pleasantly surprised with the quote. The only extras were the siteworks which we knew would happen and even those were reasonable. We were sent home with the plans and electrical plan and asked to make any chances and I was very pleased not to have to take out anything we had wanted to add in as extras (such as the $200 door which came out at $270, our consultant explained that as a wider gap would be needed there would be less 'wall' so that was deducted, who would have thought it)! In fact I was able to spend another $1500 on electicals such as more power points etc but even most of these were already in the plan we had done with the salesperson. We are sticking with flyscreens but making our bedroom ones security as we like to sleep with our windows open. Hopefully we will have the final figure at the end of this week, then will part with another $1500 before the plans goes to engineering. 4 6834 1) I had requested R6 ceiling insualtion batts, however I noticed that on some areas there are huge gaps which will allow hot air to sweep in, and also noticed black/grey… 0 3604 My door tends to rub against the frame during winter and I'm looking to fix it so it closes smoothly.
