Browse Forums General Discussion Colex Homes 2Aug 22, 2008 3:27 pm I built a home with them and was pleased with the price and the turn around time HOWEVER I am not happy with their after sales care. Many minor issues need to be resolved and I don't belive they will ever be attended to. Still awaiting the plumbers visit and it has been just over a year. Re: Colex Homes 3Oct 23, 2008 12:38 pm Hi,
Im also in the process of receiving a quote from this builder. Can you elaborate any further on your experiences with Colex Homes, good or bad. That would be greatly appreciated as this is now the forth builder we have tried after failing with 3 others due to very poor service. Cheers, Bullfrog Re: Colex Homes 4Oct 24, 2008 2:08 am Danger Will Robinson!!
Their web site has been suspended - http://www.colexhomes.com.au Could be nothing, but in my experience it usually means someone is not paying their bills... After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: Colex Homes 5Oct 24, 2008 5:43 pm I can confirm that there is no problem with Colex homes and they are currently building more display homes in Point Cook and Epping. I have been told that they were made aware of there website problems today and they are looking into it but it may just be a server issue.
I have done some subcontract carpentry work for them and they have always paid me within 7 days of sending them an invoice and I find them easy to deal with. The materials they use are all top quality, for example they use all 90x45 top and bottom wall plates where as most builders use 90x35 just because its cheaper. I cant comment on there after sales service or anything like that because I don't see that side but from what I have seen lately I think they are well worth a look. Re: Colex Homes 6Oct 27, 2008 3:36 pm Thankyou for feedback everyone, much appreciated.
I was a little concerned the website was down but that seems to be sorted now. The level of service provided thus far has been first class from returning calls to delivering on requests when i have made them. Would really like to know the final quality of there houses as i did notice a number of things that were quite rough at one of there displays. Its a display so Im sure its not that un common but it was failry obvious even to somebody who knows very little about building houses. Any other thoughts would be great. Is there any other builders out there you would highly recommend? Cheers, Bullfrog Re: Colex Homes 7Nov 05, 2008 8:52 am Hi bullfrog
Our home is in an estate full of Simmonds, Metricon and other "name" builders. We got better inclusions such as floor coverings and driveway (which others do not include). The paintwork and tiling is impeccable but I have had problems with the little things-site cleanup was not done and I had to pay to have it re-done privatly. The "made in Thailand" toilets have leaked from day one-my water bills were so high that I also paid for a plumber to fix them (after waiting way too long for Colex to respond)...actually Colex always responded quickly but their plumber never turned up so I don't know who is at fault there. Our next door neighbours, who built with Metricon have had multiple problems too and neighbours on the other side who built with Simmonds have non waterproof lighting outside their home. Good luck with whoever you choose. Re: Colex Homes 9Nov 05, 2008 1:14 pm
re my post above-is there some sort of censorship on the word M3tr1con?
Hi cjpp, Thanks kindly for your feedback. This will definetly assist should we go with Colex to make sure the little thigs like clean up happen as there supposed to. I will be sure to check the manufacturer of little things like when the time comes Im sure there is always going to be something that isnt either done correctly or requires attention once the house is completed. Can i ask how long your construction time was. Colex seems quicker at the outset as apposed to other major builders? Cheers Re: Colex Homes 10Nov 05, 2008 8:04 pm Its interesting to see the feedback on this company as I only see the construction side of the company so I don't know anything about there sales or after sales service but I would expect it to be good. I do work for a number of companies and I never need to find work because work finds me so I call it as I see it. I don't do any work for ******* companies so I'm very straight forward with everyone I do work for and I tell it how it is.
Re: Colex Homes 11Nov 13, 2008 1:20 pm Do not go near these guys. Some friends are building with them and had nothing but problems. They had a block ready to build in May last year. Was told they would be in January this year and so not in.
At start they were trying to build over easements but council refused. They took about 6 months to be able to get final drawings done and delayed as one staff member was on sick leave so they werent interested in moving them forward. They send you around to 100 different sites to pick colours which i know a lot of smaller companies do. When buiding started a year after block was ready. All their plumbing was out from the slab. Brickwork was terrible. 6 months of building later and house nearly completed. They had to get an independant inspector to come out to check if there were any faults as Colex made them sign a contract that would void them going back to do an inspection after 3 month period. The inspector had 19 pages of issues. The brickwork was crooked and walls needed to be knocked down, Tiles were so uneven that a pen could fit under a level and bench tops refixed because pen ran straight off because it wasnt even. Some walls arent even painted and they are saying it isnt their fault that they ran out of paint. With all that, they had to replace a few roof tiles and there just happened to be some rain, they didnt fix roof tiles properly and now half the house flooded. I have been watching from the start. Their sales people are incompetant as they are all family members. Their buiding works are embarassing. I picked up a crooked wall just as it went up and i have no idea about building. They are ******* as they wont come back for maintance and after house was completed, they wanted to give keys over without doing any inspection. In the end they arent much cheaper than the bigger companies and they arent even worth looking at. Re: Colex Homes 12Nov 13, 2008 2:07 pm Wow, I would be very interested to see pictures of the problems you mentioned. Since I have done some work for this company there have been many changes made including a new construction manager and 2 new supervisors, Im told they all have many years of experience.
I do work for a number of companies and my dealings with Colex have been great so far. How lonng ago was the house complete? Re: Colex Homes 14Nov 14, 2008 7:49 am Wow Robert, that is concerning and thankyou for your response.
This is the third building Im looking at after leaving 2 others due to very poor service. The one thing i have found that Colex are very good at is service but your post concerns me greatly as contracts are contracts right and Im sure all builder put in fine preint to make it very hard to take any proper action. If at all possible, id really like to know more if you have time. Im happy to send you though my mobile number in the coming weeks if you have time for a chat. Furthermore, we have never built before and really dont know a great deal about the building game other than knowing we dont have a big budget so it sounds very much like you get what you pay for. Cheers, Bullfrog Re: Colex Homes 16Nov 17, 2008 4:20 pm Robert Not good at all. They have only recently got rid of 2 supervisors and have now got 2 new supervisors and a new construction manager and all of them have many years experience in the industry from what I am told. Maybe some of your bad experiences with this company had a lot to do with the people that are no longer with the company. After all bad supervision is what causes the delays in the construction of a house. Re: Colex Homes 17Nov 19, 2008 4:12 pm I think some of the problem may have been with site supervisor but most is with head office. Making promises they didnt keep and getting them to sign papers with no maintenance inspection. They are also trying to give them the keys before the go back for inspection.
They believe the house is built and thats they way they should take it. They shouldnt have to do any final inspections before hand over. Ask for references and speak to them. If they are defensive or try to avoid the request, walk. 1 77390 I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
