Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Colex Homes 11Nov 13, 2008 1:20 pm Do not go near these guys. Some friends are building with them and had nothing but problems. They had a block ready to build in May last year. Was told they would be in January this year and so not in.
At start they were trying to build over easements but council refused. They took about 6 months to be able to get final drawings done and delayed as one staff member was on sick leave so they werent interested in moving them forward. They send you around to 100 different sites to pick colours which i know a lot of smaller companies do. When buiding started a year after block was ready. All their plumbing was out from the slab. Brickwork was terrible. 6 months of building later and house nearly completed. They had to get an independant inspector to come out to check if there were any faults as Colex made them sign a contract that would void them going back to do an inspection after 3 month period. The inspector had 19 pages of issues. The brickwork was crooked and walls needed to be knocked down, Tiles were so uneven that a pen could fit under a level and bench tops refixed because pen ran straight off because it wasnt even. Some walls arent even painted and they are saying it isnt their fault that they ran out of paint. With all that, they had to replace a few roof tiles and there just happened to be some rain, they didnt fix roof tiles properly and now half the house flooded. I have been watching from the start. Their sales people are incompetant as they are all family members. Their buiding works are embarassing. I picked up a crooked wall just as it went up and i have no idea about building. They are ******* as they wont come back for maintance and after house was completed, they wanted to give keys over without doing any inspection. In the end they arent much cheaper than the bigger companies and they arent even worth looking at. Re: Colex Homes 12Nov 13, 2008 2:07 pm Wow, I would be very interested to see pictures of the problems you mentioned. Since I have done some work for this company there have been many changes made including a new construction manager and 2 new supervisors, Im told they all have many years of experience.
I do work for a number of companies and my dealings with Colex have been great so far. How lonng ago was the house complete? Re: Colex Homes 14Nov 14, 2008 7:49 am Wow Robert, that is concerning and thankyou for your response.
This is the third building Im looking at after leaving 2 others due to very poor service. The one thing i have found that Colex are very good at is service but your post concerns me greatly as contracts are contracts right and Im sure all builder put in fine preint to make it very hard to take any proper action. If at all possible, id really like to know more if you have time. Im happy to send you though my mobile number in the coming weeks if you have time for a chat. Furthermore, we have never built before and really dont know a great deal about the building game other than knowing we dont have a big budget so it sounds very much like you get what you pay for. Cheers, Bullfrog Re: Colex Homes 16Nov 17, 2008 4:20 pm ![]() Not good at all. They have only recently got rid of 2 supervisors and have now got 2 new supervisors and a new construction manager and all of them have many years experience in the industry from what I am told. Maybe some of your bad experiences with this company had a lot to do with the people that are no longer with the company. After all bad supervision is what causes the delays in the construction of a house. Re: Colex Homes 17Nov 19, 2008 4:12 pm I think some of the problem may have been with site supervisor but most is with head office. Making promises they didnt keep and getting them to sign papers with no maintenance inspection. They are also trying to give them the keys before the go back for inspection.
They believe the house is built and thats they way they should take it. They shouldnt have to do any final inspections before hand over. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending. All their existing trades and businesses don't work with… 14 112083 Hi there! Putting the feelers out there for those who have (or almost) built with Arli homes! Interested in your experiences who've built from their stock home designs… 0 27746 So it seems like they just take on a lot of projects to get the cashflow for their own builds.
