Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 21, 2015 7:12 am Hi all, Short story: House is a few month old. Couple of months ago we arranged a driveway and a concrete footing around the house. Yesterday found a crack at the edge. About one month ago an adjacent neighbor did some earthworks around their house and cut the land right by the boundary. Approx. 350-400mm deep. They did not put a retention wall (do they have to?). Attaching some photos. Damage is affecting part of the driveway closest to house. My question is: could the crack had happen because of poor concreting work or because of boundary land cut? Soil is extremely reactive, (Adelaide, class E-D). Who is responsible now and what to do next? Thanks. * Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ * Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ * Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Concrete path crack, who's fault? 2Oct 21, 2015 8:11 am megez My question is: could the crack had happen because of poor concreting work or because of boundary land cut? Soil is extremely reactive, (Adelaide, class E-D). Who is responsible now and what to do next? Hi Megez Did you get photos of the drive way being built? Particularly, the reinforcement mesh /rebar used? The cracking on Internal corners as shown is typical and generally requires re-entrant bars which helps to control cracking. At a guess without further information it would be difficult to blame next door entirely, although I suspect it may have a bearing?. I would also be advising the builder/owner next door that he is on notice.
