Re: Crack on kitchen wall, costly to repair? 4Oct 19, 2015 8:13 pm ok you say diagonally, so im assuming you mean plastered brick and the crack is in the plaster? Or do you mean diagonally as in staggered up the brick mortar joins of a feature brick wall? Really need a photo to be sure of my suggested course of action. Is this a major structural issue or just cosmetic? What could have caused these cracks? Re: Crack on kitchen wall, costly to repair? 6Oct 29, 2015 10:56 am Its not major, but it is big enough to warrant a proper job. Proper job = grind out a v along the crack with a grinder. fill void with Selleys no more gaps and get a smooth flush finish before cured. Paint with quality interior acrylic. Re: Crack on kitchen wall, costly to repair? 9Oct 29, 2015 11:45 am Good day Rebuilder! Yes, the house is a 1980s house in WA. I'm not even sure if the house is double brick. I don't think it is. I'm a bit worried about the cracks on the walls. I found them in the kitchen and master bedroom walls. Could it be due to roots from nearby trees or settling? Re: Crack on kitchen wall, costly to repair? 10Oct 31, 2015 12:28 pm settling. We are build pretty much entirely on sand dunes in WA. That ceiling is plasterglass also, so you'll want to get oil based sealer binder onto it after you scrape off the loose paint. I will soon be painting the ceilings in the house. As shown on previous posts, the paint on the ceiling and cornice have started to peel and there are some cracks on the wall. The walls need a lick of paint too. What do tools and materials do I need to buy for this task? Crack Repair: - Grinder - Selleys filler Repainting - Roller brushes (280 mm?) and extendable pole (what material is best for the rollers?) - Paint brushes (50 mm?) - tape - sealer for plaster glass (what kind / brand is recommended)? - ceiling paint (what kind / brand is recommended)? - wall paint (what kind / brand is recommended)? Do I still need a sealer or primer? Re: Crack on kitchen wall, costly to repair? 15Dec 12, 2015 12:04 pm Thanks for answering my query about the cracks. Glad to know its not structural. Checked the back of the wall and the brick was fine. I have read that structural cracks are a lot wider and usually run a fair distance. Most likely poor foam installation and render installation, Joint covered with render, foam could be sitting on flashing. Do you have any render at house 4 9317 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi All, Hoping someone might be be to provide some advice on my ceiling that needs repair.
