Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Oct 06, 2015 5:37 pm Some of you may be aware on my ongoing saga with my builder to install concealed cistern toilets. They have finally agreed, however even for a toilet that apparently fits in a 75mm cavity, they are telling me they need to make structural changes. I quote: "For the toilets, the drainage needs to be concealed and we only use 75mm internal walls, insufficient sizing for the pipes. The only way the toilets are possible, the room size needs to be reduced to allow for 2 x 90mm internal walls, which means you loose 110mm of that room size with nil credits back for its reduction." Makes no sense to me- although I can't see how or why even with the knowledge I have. We selected the Geberit Sigma 75: http://www.geberit.com.au/media/local_m ... n_2014.pdf Would appreciate your help (as always!) Toilet installation 2Oct 07, 2015 12:00 am Where are they installing the cistern, I noticed on that pdf if they did a ceiling down mount it does have it requiring 90mm for the piping not 75mm like the other installation - then add in the actual plasterboard etc and yeah I can see how you lose 110mm. ~Shellby~ GJ Bridgewater 203 11/3/2016 - Site Work Started 29/9/2016 - Handover 142 Work Days 6 Work Days Over https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=80174 Re: Calling all plumbers! Toilet installation 3Oct 07, 2015 3:46 am We are just doing it in the wall cavity directly behind... And I have been thinking if a standard wall cavity is 75mm and it managed to take the pipes for a closed coupled toilet, why is this one any different? Ahh so confusing ! Toilet installation 4Oct 07, 2015 4:35 am The standard wall cavity (stud) these days is 70mm, used to be 90mm and some builders still use the 90mm studs. Not sure why you would expect a credit for room size reduction with the installation of a wider wall cavity as the floor area is the same. Re: Calling all plumbers! Fine with the price- I actually expected to pay more if anything. They confirmed our wall cavity is 75mm so I just don't get why they are saying we need 2 90mm walls in the room to take the pipe work when that toilet is designed to fit a 75 cavity M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Re: Calling all plumbers! Toilet installation 7Oct 07, 2015 6:57 am Adriang You should double check the 75mm wall cavity. The plan on your build blog shows 70mm internal walls. Internal walls, in Australia are either 70mm or 90mm. Yeah I agree. When I requested the toilets I asked them to change the wall cavities to 75mm to suit as I was sure they were 70, and they came back and said they are 75mm. Sometimes I don't think this lot know whether they are Arthur or Martha! Toilet installation 8Oct 07, 2015 2:43 pm Here's the latest.... They said.... "The floor pipe in the slab is 110mm by using 180mm of wall we have ample room to turn the pipe, any less creates maintenance problems. Also installing the cistern in the 70mm wall, the space required needs 1 stud taken out making the wall flimsy and if they do full height tiles the weight is not supported. If the clients would like these toilets, we will be doing 2 x 90mm walls due to above. Thankyou.' And my response..... Thanks for coming back to me so soon. Between you and me, their reasoning doesn't instill much confidence- they wouldn't make these toilets if it was impossible to install them in a 75mm wall cavity- nor would they advertise them as such. Defeats the purpose... Don't mean to take it out on you at all. It just makes no sense. I know I am not a builder but I think I am pretty well informed and I do my research. The dimensions of the product allow it to fit between studs at 460mm. I don't mean to be a smarty pants but I am sure building code allows studs to be up to 600mm apart' Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ M Y C U S T O M C O R A L B R O N T E 43 ...............Kitchen! 16 Nov 2016 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=79581 Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products.
