Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 13, 2015 10:07 pm Hi. Recently came across this post on other forum about this device called RING doorbell from USA. This website http://www.industec.com.au is now selling this here in Australia. I am not a techie so don't know much about how exactly it works but has anyone come across this and do you know who can install this in Melbourne ? Re: RING Video Wifi Doorbell - has anyone used this 2Sep 14, 2015 11:10 am I work in home security. This is a very interesting piece of technology soon to be invading our homes. The old intercom at the door seems quite outdated as now a days you can get a smart doorbell like RING $350 or a much more expensive one called Doorbird $600 (Not yet fully commercialised). As most burglaries at home are opportunity based instead of planning, these doorbells are trying to solve the former instead of latter. We recently purchased RING for trial and seems to be quite impressed with it. There are tons of reviews out there for RING some good and some bad. In the end a doorbell connected to your wifi and then alerting you on your mobile will always have different user experience. The 2 main reasons for that is 1. Doorbells are usually placed at the front door and in most cases are far from the Wifi Router hence a weak signal. 2. When the doorbell tries to alert you, your mobile network has to be the one carrying that signal back to you including the video and audio. Both 1 and 2 have to be working for you for these Doorbell's to working perfectly. But in our testing we realised that when both 1 & 2 were good, we were getting excellent video and audio. But when any one of them was weak, we were still getting the notification instatly and the video had a slight lag and the audio was a bit patchy. But does that mean RING is rubbish. In our opinion this is still a good enough device as you can still get connected to the person on your door and see and hear why they are at your property. And having motion detection, night vision and alerting add to its functionality. We would love to see a competitor of RING in Australia but there isn't any at the moment so as a user we are restricted to this. There is a lot of chats on different forums about RING being in Australia and it seems it is here to stay so its upto all of us to decide if paying $350 is worth or is there a better solution for most people who leave their home unattended. I will pm Phil to give him a number of a security guy who is installing this in Melbourne. For most of us it is a DIY device very easy to install. Re: RING Video Wifi Doorbell - has anyone used this 3Sep 17, 2015 2:47 pm I was looking to purchase a Doorbot last year (the predecessor to RING), but decided against it after reading a lot of bad reviews. I was lucky enough to win an ABB Welcome M kit recently which is basically a door intercom system, however they now have the option of adding an IP gateway which effectively means you can logon via a web browser or an app on your phone to answer the door bell (using your home network). Functionality is very similar to the RING however I also have a 7 inch monitor inside the house that activates anytime someone rings the doorbell. The devices also stores a picture every time the door bell button is pressed, which I can have emailed to me if or a notification pop up on my phone. Just got it installed a few days ago and am very impressed with it so far. It's a little more pricey than the RING system though, however the ability to get clear audio and video to my phone is impressive (I am sure that this is also dependent on your wireless network bandwidth and your mobile phone carrier bandwidth). https://library.e.abb.com/public/9b6766 ... ochure.pdf Just a little something to consider for anyone looking at door intercom type products. The RING product does seem like a very easy installation solution though. Re: RING Video Wifi Doorbell - has anyone used this 4Sep 17, 2015 7:41 pm I am also looking at installing door intercoms and have been looking at the ones below. Not sure what the differences are though. http://www.das.com.au/Products/communic ... s-free-kit http://www.aiphone.com/home/products/jo/ http://www.dorani.com.au/ Re: RING Video Wifi Doorbell - has anyone used this 5Sep 24, 2015 9:41 pm I have one in my new home and LOVE it!
