Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Sep 11, 2015 11:12 am Hi all, Just wondering if someone could let me know the process (and possibly estimated cost) to get a full height opening turned into a doorway? We are currently building and have a FHO in our theatre room and laundry and are kicking ourselves because we should have put a door on the theatre to possibly make a future bedroom and one on the laundry to block noise. Is it possible to make these into doorways post build? Ceilings are 31c and all walls are brick. Theatre is 1060mm wide and laundry 1050mm. Any help is much appreciated. Cheers Re: Turning a Full Height Opening into a Doorway 2Sep 11, 2015 11:42 am This should not be too difficult but as far as cost you'll need to get a chippie to give you a quote. It will involve selecting doors and jams, framing up the height above the door opening, fixing the jam to the opening, plastering and painting. If you have cornices they will also need to be matched up. Once again not a big job but will involve at least 2 trades... a chippie and plasterer unless you can find someone who can do both and finally the painting. Re: Turning a Full Height Opening into a Doorway 3Sep 11, 2015 12:06 pm Thanks for the reply. Wouldn't the door frame have to be bricked in rather than framed as all the walls are brick? Would a bricky be able to fix the door jam and brick it in to ceiling height or would a chippie need to be involved? Take a pick with a level sittingo n the slab and a pick with a level sitting on the sill please. This will help us diagnose the issue and therefore a solution.
