Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 07, 2008 1:06 pm Hi All,
My Husband and I have just completed the rendering of our front house. We are in two minds as to what colour will go well with our Pacific Terracotta roof tiles (blue, in layman's language). We have painted the retaining wall Dulux Ecru and I am more than happy to stay with that colour for the house but Husband is worried that it may look boring (which I doubt). He even suggested that, maybe, we should go for a bold colour or darker colour - just for colums, if we stayed with Ecru for the house. Just for your info, our garage, window trims etc is Merino. We did like the colour Self-Destruct by Dulux but were afraid that it's too close to the garage etc. We still have to finish off the top garden bed with a merbau capping, on top of the grey stackstone. We will also have grey stackstone, behind of the column where it's not rendered. Our soon to be driveway will be charcoal or bluestone in colour (depending on who we go with). I thought I included these info so it'll help everyone to imagine how the colours will work together. If anyone can enlighten us - any advice is appreciated. Thanks. Dahlia I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 3Jul 07, 2008 3:27 pm Hi D@n
Thanks for your input. Truly appreciate it. You don't think it'll look lost if we use fence colour. The fence colour is Merino / Paperbark - same as our garage and other fascia, window Dahlia I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 4Jul 07, 2008 3:46 pm Hi Dahlia,
I think if you used the fence colour everywhere it may be a bit plain? I'd use two or three colours. The fence colour and then one or two darker colours. Maybe a mid/dark colour around the garage, then really dark for the columns and then the paperbark around the windows? Look I'm pretty crap at outside colours, but just throwing around ideas. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 5Jul 07, 2008 3:50 pm Hi Jo
No .. no, don't say you're crap cos' some ideas thrown out there is better than nothing. It gives me an idea or direction at which way I'd want to go. So, big thanks for contributing I have seen this scheme of colours you've mentioned. It's worth a thought Dahlia I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 8Jul 07, 2008 8:40 pm haywgl I love your fence colour I'd stick with that for the main part of your house and then a colour like Colorbond Jasper for the two front colums. Good Luck Can you tell her favourite colour is Jasper? Its mine also!! I think it would look great if you had contrasting colours - all the same as the fence will look a bit bland. Maybe the lighter colour around the garage and a bold colour for the entrance. Paula Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 10Jul 07, 2008 9:01 pm Hi Guys.
Ok .. saw the Colorbond Jasper. It's a beautiful colour but I'm unsure if it'll go with the blue roof. You don't think it'd be a bit off ... sorry, I just don't want to sound like an ingrate but I do appreciate the input ok I do agree with you, Paula .. I'm more towards getting a light colour around the garage as it's Merino. DH/Hubby wants a bold / contrast colour for columns and it's also trying to find a suitable colour for it. The stackstoned garden bed next to it, will have a Merbau (Hardwood) Capping. Merbau, is like a red brown in colour but not as red as Meranti. Back to the drawing board again ... who would have thought it's going to be this hard, huh? or am I just fussy? LOL I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 12Jul 07, 2008 9:19 pm HI
can I ask you about your front doors. Somewhere else on the forum someone was asking about the glass for those type of front doors. did you go clear? or translucent? or??? http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=7909&highlight= Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 13Jul 07, 2008 9:28 pm Hi kexkez
The front doors have frosted glass or you can call it translucent. The glass above the door is clear. We asked for the frosted glass as we didn't like the idea of people being able to see us "moving around" when they're knocking at door. It's more privacy issue, therefore, why we left the top glass clear. At night, when you have the lights on, you can see 'shadow' if you're near the door but not from afar. We have 2 neighbours who opted for the clear. We can see everything or their movement, you can say that. One of them had to buy the sunscreen blind to maintain privacy, which I personally think it's tacky (and so does she but she didn't think of this when she was with Consultant) The other one, has double entry doors, like ours and trust me, at night - it's as good as not having a door. Having said that, to each its own though I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 14Jul 07, 2008 9:40 pm This might be abit off topic, but i noticed your stackerstone raised garden bed. Did you do this yourself or get someone to do it? How much, if you dont mind me asking
thanks. With regards to colour, i'm sorry but i'm not good at choosing colour. Maybe Michelle can help, she's very good! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 15Jul 07, 2008 9:42 pm hi TJ175 thanks for this. I've added a link to your query to the other persons query so they can see your comments. It was the kind of advice and information they were interested in hearing about. Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 16Jul 07, 2008 9:51 pm Hi TJ175,
I would go for a darker shade for the entrance. I like contrasting colours for rendered areas. It will look too bland if you make it all light colours. Why not try a bluish shade that would look good in Ecru? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Maybe Michelle can help, she's very good! Hi wonderland That's ok, ask away. We're all here to help each other, right? We built our own stackstone garden bed. It's not finished yet, as we still need to finish off the top with merbau capping. Same colour and material as side gate and steps next to it. I can't quote cost as we did it ourselves but we got the stackstone at a good deal which is $85 / sqm. We didn't like the straight grey look, it's not obvious in the pic but it has some rustic look to it but not much as the common ones you see. It would have cost us over $100 / sqm, so we were glad that we found something different cos' most grey - is just grey ... know what I mean I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 18Jul 07, 2008 10:02 pm Hi VJ
Funnily enough, I did consider the bluish theory. My only concern is if it'll be too much as we also have feature posts which we painted blue where it's on the side and in front of the gate. I was going to consider something like greysih blue .. it's still in consideration. Thanks VJ I think, therefore, I am! Re: Help with Exterior House Colour 20Jul 07, 2008 10:32 pm Judie that looks good. it picks up the blue/grey of that side fence without being too much.
