Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 22, 2015 5:11 pm So I didn't realise but our lounge/media room doesn't come with door it's an upgrade ugh !!! I do remember mentioning it to our sales guy when oking plans but he didn't actually add them or do anything about it so I have chased it up and have the option of a 820mm slider door ( $280 + GST) , or 2 x 720mm doors ( $620 + GST ) I think we will go with slider for two reasons firstly more room as it isn't the largest room as it is and secondly cost But I do really like the look of double doors -I like the double doors purely for aesthetic reasons. Not sure if to just pay the extra $320 and get what i originally wanted or if the pro's for sliding door outweigh the pros for the double doors, what's everyones opinions ? ( Also I have read aout sliding doors letting out sound but I'm not too worried about that it's not a hardcore media room ) TIA Re: door on media / lounge room 2Jul 22, 2015 10:21 pm I am in exactly the same boat as you are. Had to inform my SS and he asked me to provide him the door specs so he can give me a quote. Since it is next to the main entrance, I wanted the it to blend in with the wall so I am also choosing a one door. To be specific, it is a corinthian slimline cavity sliding door. I think one door makes the access easier. Hopefully his quote is not too high. Re: door on media / lounge room 3Jul 23, 2015 1:41 am Sliders and double doors are not the best in terms or sound containment. If space is an issue go with slider but understand the acoustic downsides associated. I think double doors would look nicer but ensure you get 180 degree hinges so the door can sit flush against the wall when opened. Pay the little extra now and then you will be set. I have a dedicated theatre and the builder originally specd a double door but I reduced to a single 920mm solid core door. Re: door on media / lounge room 4Jul 23, 2015 3:04 pm I put double cavity sliders on mine (house not built yet) so the room can be really open or closed. I did cavity sliders so a couch or coffee table or anything can go right up to the wall and wont be in the way as they may be if the doors did open inward Re: door on media / lounge room 5Aug 03, 2015 9:51 pm We've gone double doors on parliament hinges that open outward from the room. Not sure if it's the best option, but it's what my better half wanted, and besides, every configuration we considered had pros and cons. Re: door on media / lounge room 6Aug 11, 2015 11:02 pm GThanks everyone, we have gone with 2x 720 cavity sliders I was happy with two double hinged doors and there was a miscommunication with builder and he did variation for double cavity sliders I didn't want to annoy him and change it again but am now happy with it it can be open or closed off and being a small room at least hinged doors won't be taking up room, who knew there was so many decisions to make building a house haha Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
