They have built a beautiful home in the centre of our town, might be worth checking them out! Els Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbo 5Jul 04, 2008 10:19 pm leesy Have a look at the "Hawthorn Attic" design and you will get an idea of what we like.... We looked at this on display in Cardinia Lakes, nice house. If you could whack a small bathroom upstairs even better. Take a drive around the Heritage Springs estate in Pakenham and talk to the land sales agent there (if you haven't already). Quite a few houses of this style in there and the sales agents may be able to point you towards some of the builders (think Premier has built a fair few). Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 6Jul 05, 2008 9:50 am We were originally going to build with Premier homes, we picked the Coventry Botanic and even put down a deposit, but by the time we had looked at the price for everything so that it was identical to the showhome it came to nearly $60,000 more so we pulled out.
We have built with a company called AngelCo homes, I don't think they do weatherboard houses though, might be worth having a chat with them though as they seem pretty open to building ANY house! The quality of their workmanship is outstanding and nothing is too much trouble for them. Ignore the houses on thier web site though, they look naff and as I said they are very open to suggestions! Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 7Jul 05, 2008 10:12 am Have you seen this website
http://www.storybook.com.au/ I was really keen on a cottage style house a few years ago but it fell into the too hard basket. Most of these builders are on the other side of the city to us. Australian Country retreats do a couple of cute weatherboard designs too. http://www.a-c-r.com.au/ Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 8Jul 05, 2008 6:24 pm Hi everyone,
Thankyou so much for your suggestions. I really like the Australian Country Retreats, I will be looking into that one further, thanks!! The Longvue homes are actually the builders that Premier Uses, their "Hawthorn" is a smaller version of Premiers "Hawthorn Attic"... same house - no attic. I found that info on homeone as well!! I did try to have a look at that Nirvana house, unfortunately when I got there it was no longer a display home and somebody was living in it... they need to update their website I think !! The Taradale by Premier is absolutely gorgeous, that is the house I originally fell in love with but it is just too costly... so we looked at the Hawthorn Attic as suggested by one of their sales consultants, and fell in love with that also. But like I said, just wanted to keep my options open. We went and had a look at Oakridge by Fernhaven again today, it is very nice and I really like the generous sized bedrooms. Thanks again for your suggestions, I also like the one about driving around Heritage Springs... good thinking 99!! Any further suggestions would be welcome. Lisa. Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 9Jul 05, 2008 6:32 pm We've just sold our Fernhaven Rosedale in Heritage Springs Pakenham. We love the house (we're selling as part of our plan to move on the bigger and better things...), can't fault the workmanship and Gary was a pleasure to deal with.
That said, I'm not sure how big you are thinking but have you looked at Harkaway Homes? Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 10Jul 05, 2008 6:48 pm Hi, have had a look at Harkaways website... have keep that one in mind. We also looked at the Rosedale by Fernhaven today, what a beautiful house. Why would you want to leave that??
I really liked their Oakridge house, there is only one thing that puts me off... the alfresco is in the middle of the family and theatre room, and there is no exit to the back of the house. What that means for me is that your alfresco faces the fence, and you kind of loose the backyard because it is hidden around the corner. I like to see the backyard, but thats just us. We are back on the Hawthorn Attic again I think.... for now.. lol Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 11Jul 05, 2008 8:06 pm I think, regarding the design of the Oakridge, the idea is that most blocks are longer than they are wide and you would build the house with the entire 'garage side' of the house, which is the lesser important side (or more utility side - the living areas are all on the other side), running down along-side the fence on that side, opening up the other side with the Alfresco area etc. to whats left of the backyard.
Many of today's home designs are like this, in fact most of the houses in my street are like this. Re: Help!! Looking for a cottage style house design - Melbourne 12Jul 08, 2008 1:35 pm Just remembered another builder we looked at;
http://www.highviewhomes.com.au/seachange/index.html They do a range of cottages although most are a bit small. The Seachange is new and a bit bigger. You may be able to add to the plan. They built heaps of cottages at Wyndham Green when it first opened. My friend built a Highview Cottage there about 10 years ago and has been very happy with it. Re: Help!!
