Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 13, 2015 8:21 am Hi all, I had handover on brand new home on monday 6th july and on Saturday 11th july i started removing skirting boards to lay my tiling and floorboards and i found a large area of mould on one skirting board and a small area in another room. Is it my builders responsibility to rectify this during the defects liability period? The mould looks pretty set in although it hadnt grown on the outside face of the plaster board yet. I am concerned it could be wicking from the insulation if it's touching the bricks. Or rising damp from poor damp coursing or insulation under the slab. For reference it is a brick veneer home on a raft slab. The room is south facing and it's winter so a few whammies in there. Advice or directions appreciated. Mike. Re: Mould behind skirting boards 1 week after handover 4Jul 14, 2015 9:02 am I'm just wondering that rather than something as sinister as the cavity having been breached by excess brickies mortar it could be just the timber frame drying out after having had a good soak before the roof has gone on. Or that the skirting may have been stored in the garage where the moisture content was close to the same as outside. The fact that the mould hasn't appeared on the face of the plasterboard ( yet ) is a good sign. If you have some sunny days I'd give the skirting a good clean and sit it out in the sun for a while. Opening windows in those rooms on the same sunny days wouldn't hurt either. The wall being south facing and not having direct sunlight is an issue too. Really hoping there is not a colony on the backside of the gyprock. Building Standards; Getting It Right! Is this acceptable in a new house build. Floors where installed by builder. Already chips in board and skirting is not flush 0 191 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 28326 |
