Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 11, 2015 10:36 pm Hi everyone - I'm new to this site/forum. We've only been in our newly built house for about 6 weeks. My first problem is we have an awful, foul smell coming from one of the kitchen cupboards. It's the cupboard between the dishwasher recess and the sink cupboard. The cupboard houses the dishwasher plumbing and as yet, we don't have a dishwasher installed. The drains are all running clear and fast and we're connected to deep sewerage. The smell seems worse in the evenings. We've been waiting for nearly two weeks for our building company to send a plumber - still waiting. Any ideas? My second problem is after some heavy rain three weeks ago, a hole has appeared in the sand in front of our house. It's about a foot deep and is exposing what I think is a soakwell. Again, we are waiting on our builders to confirm a plan of action for us - communication hasn't really been their thing unfortunately and I don't think they have sighted it yet. We have also asked the developer to send someone to have a look but I have no idea if they have. Should we be concerned? We'd like to start landscaping. Lastly, does anyone have any recommendations for a good video camera setup? Had my car window smashed last night along with some others in the street. Cheers! Re: Smell question :/ 2Jul 12, 2015 2:02 am id guess the dishwasher connection point has already been drilled out and a drain hose connected. This is usually above the trap but if you are smelling the sewer it could be below the trap which would be an illegal installation by your builder. My guess is the s trap isn't full, do you use that sink yet? as for surveillance, i wired up this unit from swan security, you can buy it online and monitor every camera from your phone while u are at work. It even alerts you when something triggers a camera in the house. http://www.swann.com/au/swdvk-41504wf its brilliant and so easy! Re: Smell question :/ 3Jul 12, 2015 6:32 pm Hi rebuilder86 - thanks for your reply and the link. Not knowing anything about dishwashers (yet), I've attached a photo of the plumbing setup. Can I assume that the smell is coming from that open pipe? The dishwasher recess is to the right and the kitchen sink is to the left with separate plumbing. So longer term, if you don't fit a dishwasher, you'll probably want to cap it. You can really use anything you want the main consideration would be how it looks once painted/finished - or the look you want. Cabinetmakers use MDF because its cheap… 2 9978 I would say both styles you have pictured are steel. The lower chord of the first pic would be a massive lump if made using timber considering the size of the rafters. If… 1 6157 1 13128 |
