Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 06, 2015 10:07 pm Hello, I decided to tile either ceramic or porcelain in the lower level of my two storey newly built home. I need your kind advise please: 1-Should I use ceramic or porcelain tiles ? 2-Are there any best practices in tiling ? Ex. using leveling system... ? 3-How much should I expect to pay the tiler (building in south west Sydney) ? 4-I am looking to tile 600mm * 600mm tiles, is this good ? Any other advise would be appreciated too Cheers... Re: Tiling advise :) 2Jul 08, 2015 9:23 pm I am not to sure about the difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles, but I do know that once the tiles are laid and you are 12 months into living in your new house you will forget about whether your tiles are ceramic or porcelain… pick something you like and run with it…. Genrally the tiler if the are laying the tiles on the slab, will put down a level of screet, which will be level and then lay the tiles ontop of that….. we have 600 x 600 and look fantastic…. Re: Tiling advise :) 3Jul 09, 2015 1:14 am Pay the extra for porcelain- harder wearing and more durable, not to mention nicer looking. After 12 months I will still regret not getting porcelain everyday. Porcelain is so cheap these days it's not even worth considering ceramic. Re: Tiling advise :) 4Jul 09, 2015 1:28 am I believe porcelain is more durable and recommended for flooring, whereas ceramic is more often used for walls as it is lighter, and they don't need to stand up to much traffic. 600x600 looks great on a floor, but generally costs a bit more for labour than smaller tiles, as they are heavier and harder to work with. I am looking for someone who might have tackled a similar issue as me. I have a few rendered interior walls, the surface condition is hardly flat. I can see all the bumps… 0 7938 Looking to tile the facade pillars rather than rendering. Builder is quoting 2500$ laying cost for upto 10msq. The 2 pillars come to be 16msq. So laying costs are 5000$… 0 7443 Hi, I'm clearing the tiles from our horrid 50 year old bathroom and preparing to lay new ones. Bugger of a job getting the old… 0 8076 |
