Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 24, 2015 5:44 pm I am looking for someone to sort out my kitchen floor which is sagging. I listed the job on one of those websites that sends quotes to you. One of the people quoting for the job has a licence number with restrictions listed on the Victorian Building Authority's website as follows: Under the heading "Limitations" - it says: "Domestic Building Work that does not require insurance, Sub-floor works". "Domestic Building Work that does not require insurance" - So does this mean that the licence holder can only do work that does not require insurance? Therefore, he is, in effect, uninsured? Am I reading that correctly? "Limitations" - it says: "Sub-floor Works" - Does this mean he is limited to doing only sub-floor work? or Does this mean he cannot do sub-floor work? If anyone can clarify this for me, I'd appreciate it. thanks Re: Builders Licence question 2Jun 24, 2015 10:17 pm HI, Can you walk in your sub floor or crawl only? Have you thought about getting an engineer to see whta the exact problem is? Can you post some pics. 'It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.' (Probably because he has no assets or he does not want to put them up to the insurer, maybe he lost it all, divorce? who knows?). If something goes wrong and builder does not fix you might be whistling Dixie. Ask for references and check them out, you never know , he might be OK. Do your research and go with your gut feeling. The space under the house is around 3ft high. The problem is that a couple of the concrete stumps have sunk down a little and there is insufficient support under one of the structural members. I will speak to the Victorian Building Authority today and I might speak to my house insurer. I will try to do as much research as I can, go with my gut instinct (as you said) and fingers crossed. many thanks Look at your bill from the electricity company. It should detail the charges.
