Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 01, 2008 1:58 pm Im building with a larger builder.
How many site would a SS normally supervise at the one time? Should I need to explain who I am each time I speak to him or could I rasonably expect that a few months into the project he'd have some recollection of who I am? Building in manor lakes 2008 Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 2Jul 01, 2008 2:02 pm When I was building - many moons ago - our SS was looking after 20 homes..... yep if he worked 40 hours he'd be spending 2 hours per week on average on your house.
Having said that once I said I was "Mike, the guy with the red roofed house, no the one on the main road, yeah big garage" we were generally on the same page. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 3Jul 01, 2008 6:16 pm Razzle, our S/S varied from 8 houses up to 22 when he covered for another S/S on holidays. LOL, there was no problems remembering our names, i made sure they were burnt into his memory real quick!!!
Just build up a good raport with them and you should be fine!! Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 4Jul 03, 2008 12:48 am on the topic but slightly off......our site was scraped on the 13th June and slab so I've been told is being poured tomorrow. Not sure if this will happen as I took yet another drive to the block today and the formwork (?) hasn't even been done, no waffle pods on site just a stack of reinforcing mesh thingo's. Anyway our SS hasn't even contacted us at all not even to introduce himself to us. We were given his name and number back on 8th June and were told to expect a call from him any day.......I've rung him once last Friday 27th June and he still hasn't gotten back to me. Doesn't look good does it? Happy at Home Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 5Jul 03, 2008 8:29 am Our last SS, who has now "parted ways" with the same builder as H2B , had 14 houses on the go....but was rarely at any of them, according to the tradies! Obviously he couldn't cope with that number. I don't know what the "right" number is, but , considering they have an office day every week, and need to actually supervise the sites on a regular basis, I'm guessing they need less than 14!!!
Hope that slab goes down today, H2B!!! Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 6Jul 03, 2008 9:23 am Had my first contact with our SS this morning. Wasn't a very pleasant experience Happy at Home Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 7Jul 03, 2008 11:06 am Quote: I don't know what the "right" number is, but , considering they have an office day every week, and need to actually supervise the sites on a regular basis, I'm guessing they need less than 14!!! Petal, I guess this also depends on how far apart the houses are: if they are geographically close or even in the same estate, it would be more manageable than if there was lots of travelling time involved. H2B, what went wrong with your experience? Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 8Jul 03, 2008 11:16 am Helyn H2B, what went wrong with your experience? I spoke to our SS this morning, first contact we have had. Our CSC has been telling me since 8th June "expect a call anyday" Well this morning I rang him as our site was scraped on the 13th June and our slab was due to be poured today. Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 10Jul 03, 2008 11:23 am Helyn H2B, how to feel like a valued customer: NOT!! Hope their customer service gets better from here on I was hoping the SS would make up for all the crap we have had to deal with in the admin side of things.......this doesn't appear to be the case at the moment. Hope he lifts his game and treats us like clients who he is overseeing not just another house that the company he works for is building. Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 11Jul 03, 2008 11:24 am Thats true Helyn, with Henley, i know i asked our S/S "D" if he was going to be the S/S for Jewel47's place, which is only a few streets away from us and he said no, that that was the other supervisor for the area.
I know "D" would be on our site once to twice each day. Cause i would usually see him when i did my drive-by's....lol. It's wierd how they are allocated jobs though as they are all fairly close together. I think "D" covers the areas Narre Warren, Berwick and Cranbourne but shared with at least one other supervisor?? I shudder to think of the builders that have sites everywhere and don't have the volume of jobs, their S/S would be on the road a fair bit! Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 12Jul 03, 2008 11:36 am Our SS is handling about 15 homes. He will get to our house about 2 or 3 times a week. Doesn't sound like a lot, however his job is not to do the hands on, but to check on the trades and make sure everything is orgainsed, on track, and up to the right standard.
He doesn't often call me - but he's available when I call him, and he's happy to have a chat and to meet me on site. As an owner, you tend to find problems before the SS notices them, because we are living and breathing only one house every day. Cheers Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 13Jul 03, 2008 11:48 am Our SS with H had 17.... we had 3 SS during construction. I think that impacted more than anything else as the new one never knew what the old one had booked up etc Re: how many sites does an SS work at one time? 14Jul 03, 2008 12:47 pm Well, we're not even to lock up yet, and on toour 4th SS. The last one was very rarely there - I know the brickies, who were there for almost 3 weeks (and who had never bricked that house before) said they saw him twice, for a short time, in that period. THAT is ridiculous! And the plumbers and scaffolders complained that they could never get hold of him by phone, either.....Needless to say we are hoping and praying that this new guy will be MUCH better!!!!
We are on the very edge of PD's build zone - another 200m and they would not have built for us!!! So, I don't know how many others are anywhere near us - we're in a very much established area, and they do a lot more concentrated building around the newer estates (obviously!) like Narre Warren, Berwick, Cranbourne - which are all about 40mins from us!!! Having said that, they were happy to take our money - and it costs extra to build where we are - so they can give us a SS who will actually supervise our build!!!
