Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Aug 05, 2004 11:14 am We are in the final stages of building a house and will have our final inspection next week. Does anyone know where I can obtain a checklist of what to look for when inspecting? We have an independent inspector but would like more information on what to look out for.
Marian home inspection 2Aug 26, 2004 3:24 pm good question, we're about to do the same thing. it's probably a bit late now as your inspection was a few weeks ago but did you turn up anything? i had a look at those renovation sites on Channel 9's website but couldn't find anything under their fact sheets Re: Home Inspection 3Sep 06, 2004 3:28 pm If you are at the final inspection stage of the building the only items that should really concern you are items relating to the quality of the finish of the home.
Prior inspections throughout the building stages by the building inspectors should address any issues relating to structural matters. Having said that, I believe every home owner should have a basic knowledge of all parts pertaing to the construction of their home prior to building. Maybe easier said than done. Final inspection - check that all windows work properly & smoothly check that all doors incl. robes, kitchen cupboards etc. work correctly. check that all taps - hot & cold work properly. check plastering & painting late in the day by shining a torch along the walls & ceilings does the range hood fan work ? does the toilet flush ? Probably above all do not 'sign off' a final inspection agreement with the builder until you are completely satisfied. Do not agree to 'yes we'll do it', without having it in writing. The report included a defects list that you can go to your builder with for rectification. Fast, reliable inspection to report.
