Dont know if you have seen this house...but it is so Grey I thought you would be interested to see the way they have used colours with dark grey walls... Lots of whites, I think it looks fantastic but dark, possibly because the photos were taken at dusk. I love looking at unique and individual homes. What do you think ( and everyone else of course) Mrs B Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: A grey house for Mek 2Jun 29, 2008 4:20 pm Hi Mrs B
I like the bedroom and outdoor areas a lot. The neutral tones could do with a some splashes of colour IMO Not bad overall. Re: A grey house for Mek 3Jun 29, 2008 8:07 pm Very interesting. I like it, I think!
We are getting shades of grey; mid-grey floor tiles, then a bit lighter for architraves, lighter again for walls, then white for ceilings. Cabinet doors will be black. Our furniture though is more earthy so it will contrast more. I hope we made the right choice. Geoff - Decophile. Re: A grey house for Mek 4Jun 29, 2008 8:40 pm Eager Very interesting. Hi Eager, I had forgotten that you also liked grey I found this house quite interesting, I think it is very classy but I am just itching to inject splashes of colour every where. I like the white idea and I think they should have done more of this. I must admit the grey furniture makes it very grey but thats the look the owners wanted I suppose. Mrs B Re: A grey house for Mek 6Jun 29, 2008 10:41 pm Really like it! I looove that bed, and DH would be drooling over those shugg glass windows!!! I know people think grey is dull, but I think those pics look very serene and calming - may have a tinge of green to the grey?? Grey/taupe carpet. Black blinds. With burnt orange! Long live grey! I'm with you Mek! (where is Mek?) and Eager, you rock.
Thanks Mrs B for making me happy on a horrible night. (Nothing wrong just sooking. ) Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. (Nothing wrong just sooking. ) Jo Hi Jo, I knew you were having burnt orange ( love this colour btw) but I didnt realise you were having grey as well I find it a very sophiscated colour and its interesting to see what colours people use for their accent colour. If I was using grey, I probably would have all the whites...white couch, chairs, paintings. blankets etc You are allowed to sook, I sooked all last week. Nothing happened at our house all last week even though everything was suppose to start. What drives me crazy is the half finished jobs like the glass in our windows. 5 months later, the window company can still not explain why the rest of the glass has not been installed Anyway, today is the start of a new week and I am feeling very positive. Mrs B Re: A grey house for Mek 9Jun 30, 2008 8:22 am This week she has to share the sook allowance with me.
I do love the front of mek's house. I don't know why I hadn't noticed/seen the interior was in greys. I really must do an extended search. We had intended a quite grey kitchen with the features being a small amount of jarrah timber capping and our loved cork flooring. Since changed the kitchen colours due to the granite not being what we expected. . Love the way the beautiful intense colours in the painting and throw rug in the lounge area have such a wow factor against the greys there. The same with the room/hallway with the sliding door leading out to the deck. The neutral colour allows those fabulous, vivid paintings to really be displayed perfectly. My only thought was the bathroom needs "something". Very cleverly done and the house is not cold at all. Re: A grey house for Mek 10Jun 30, 2008 8:50 am Oh how nice of you Mrs. B! Although I wouldn't call this grey - I think it's taupe but I still love the squareness and order of it (weird, eh ) and the shot of the lounge (with the TV) is just fabulous. I know you would all be just itching to add colour and details but I don't think it needs it.
I have the same looking bedspread as that one but in grey! For those that are recent members, I have a charchoal kitchen, charcoal carpet, stone grey tiles, white walls, charcoal and white furniture and a red couch. My bathrooms have exactly the same cupboards as the kitchen - now have I given you enough details to confirm I'm strange? I have only bought a few decorating pieces (3 of them wrong) and I'm waiting to be very clear about what I want (I'm female, after all) - I've gone off paintings, I'm possibly going to introduce another colour (hot pink? purple?) in details. We still haven't got a rug either, or cushions for our red couch - not decided what to do yet. I'll see what I can gather from my trip to Europe next month as well. Re: A grey house for Mek 12Jun 30, 2008 3:42 pm Hi mek
I'm reasonably new, so I didn't know about your "greyness" I think everything you've described about your place sounds great - charcoal kitchen - stunning! I love charcoal! I actually wear quite a bit of charcoal/grey (am today, as a matter of fact!!) I'm having tiles on my laundry, pantry and 3 boys' ensuites, in "wet cement" - it's kind of grey/green....quite like wet cement, really....... Our main wall colour is "Astor White", which I've always described as white with a bit of grey to it. So, I'm with you on the grey!!! You don't sound strange to me at all!!! I do , however, like browns , as well!!! The charcoal carpet sounds divine - could you post a photo, or direct me where to look at it, please??Oh, and shopping tips from Europe - YES PLEASE!!!! This is the thread about my carpet: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... ght=feltex I did go for Grey Moon and it looks fabulous, the only thing is, I have to vacuum often as every little bit of fluff shows. Charcoal is not an easy colour to keep clean (goes for charcoal kitchen as well). If you want me to post a photo from one of our bedrooms to see what the carpet looks like laid, I can do it too. Re: A grey house for Mek 14Jun 30, 2008 8:26 pm Love the grey moon, mek - and, yes, I'd love to see your bedrooms ( sounds a bit weird.... ) I'm not fussed about having to vac it often - I'm getting ducted vac, so it should be easy!!! I had choc coloured carpet in our b/r, and it showed the fluff, etc - didn't bother me.
If we had endless $$$ , we would have done a house more in the style of Mrs B, with commercial aluminium windows, polished concrete floors, etc - so probably quite a bit more grey!!! That's fine if it's too boring for you, doesn't mean it's not right for anyone else! You can always add colour with furniture, bedlinen, art, etc. At least that's easier to change than orange shag pile (...and, yes I know THAT one from experience!!!) Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life You’re on the right track, wire brush in a grinder then a zinc rich epoxy primer then a top coat of some sort, like a waterproofing membrane.
