Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 27, 2015 7:30 pm Hi, So I've got to the final stages of signing my contract to build but I have run into a problem with the plans for my Home Theatre. I have designed the room to be 5.2mx4.2m in size with a double 720 door opening into it. The windows I have chosen are just big enough to cover the 5% ventilation requirements and 10% light requirements (Trying to keep the room as dark and sound insulated as possible(2x1409). Unfortunately I've been told by the builder that I need to have a ceiling fan installed to meet the energy efficiency requirements. This is a real pain because it will spoil the look, get in the way of the projector and it will already have air conditioning. Not to mention this fan is costing close to $500! Does any one have any more information on the energy efficiency requirements? Is there another way around this besides bigger windows? Building in QLD if that helps. Re: Ceiling Fan Required for Media Room 2May 27, 2015 7:44 pm We are building in qld on the Gold Coast and our room is slightly bigger than yours and didn't need a fan, however we have 4 windows, I would be definitely finding out how to fix that issue otherwise IMO the room is ruined with a fan. Maybe you can stick more insulation in the roof to raise the rating? Re: Ceiling Fan Required for Media Room 4May 27, 2015 8:08 pm $500 for a ceiling fan? Is it made out of gold??? If you need exhaust from the room - one idea might be an exhaust type unit - as you see in toilets - but not powered - ie run by the outside wind. Like in a roof. I've done this in my west facing garage - from roof to ceiling - and it is good. 2 4365 My home office is hot with computer equipment running virtually 18 hours a day.
