Might be time to try one on with PD. I think you are going to be disappointed with any brick you choose because you really are in love with the Austral ones. Anything else will be a compromise. Am I right in understanding PD use Austral in different ranges? If I was in your postion, I'd calmly sit down with someone with a bit of authority and tell them how wonderful everything is (blow a bit of sunshine up their proverbial!) and then say BUT we cannot move forward as there simply is not a brick that we feel suits our needs in the Boral range. We will have to look at rethinking our decision to build with you unless we are able to use an Austral brick for our build. It's worth a try but I'd really push it and go as high up as possible. What's the worse that can happen? You'll remain as stuck as you are. The best that can happen? They agree rather than lose you as a customer. Give it a shot Bel. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Natural Mortar 22Jun 30, 2008 6:07 pm Funny I was thinking the exact same thing Jo..but it seems alot of people on here - Vanderlay, HouseToBe...have all tried the same thing but with no luck...
I'm happy to also give it a go though I have a meeting with my s/c tomorrow will see what he says And yes they do use Austral for their other ranges and I was told that soon the whole company (Prestige, Lifestyle and Access) will both have access to Boral and Austral Bricks My karma ran over your dogma Re: Natural Mortar 23Jun 30, 2008 6:12 pm Thanks Everyone for your responses.
Our builder says that they cannot guarantee the colour that it will turn out to be for the natural mortar, they had it on display at the colour selections but on a different brick so it didn't help. Our colour consultant is useless so i don't think she will be able to tell us which type of natural mortar it is (natural beige or natural grey). I can already guess what she will say 'Can't say, depends on how the builder makes it!' Grrr I'll give it a try anyway. Talking about bricks, before going for the Austral Nougat, we wanted to go for the Boral Vanilla, we wanted a lighter coloured brick but in the end the builder did not allow us to choose the Vanilla as they have had complaints from customers as the Vanilla turned out to be a different colour to the one on the display. There's a couple more bricks that we were not allowed to choose for the same reason. Bel - If you like light coloured bricks, you may want to have a look at Boral's vanilla? Rachelle - We got a couple of addresses from Austral Bricks. But we are in melbourne (from your location, i think you are in Sydney?) so it doesn't help.. I'd suggest you call austral bricks and ask them for a couple of the addresses, they have been very helpful. As everybody said before, it really helps to see the bricks on a whole house, it makes a huge difference. Initially when we picked the Nougat, we thought it was creamy in colour from the display but when we visited a house, it was more greyish and not creamish at all.. It still blends in nicely with our external colours but it's just not what we originally thought it would be. Thanks all again for suggestions/comments. I guess i won't find out until we start building.. probably won't happen until next year since we haven't settled land yet but i'll make sure i post pics for you guys to see what my natural mortar looks like Re: Natural Mortar 24Jun 30, 2008 6:15 pm Thanks Dreamhome - my builder had the same response to using the Vanilla bricks, I wanted to use Coco or Vanilla but was told no as they go a greeny tinge when they are acid washed..... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Natural Mortar 25Jun 30, 2008 6:16 pm haywgl Thanks Dreamhome - my builder had the same response to using the Vanilla bricks, I wanted to use Coco or Vanilla but was told no as they go a greeny tinge when they are acid washed..... Oh nooo! no luck Hopefully you'll find one that you like ... Re: Natural Mortar 26Jun 30, 2008 7:43 pm Just in case anyone is interested these are the colours we used with the bricks.

I think, if anything, they will just charge "like a wounded bull", as they say, for the privilege!!! I think they do that if they CAN do things, but it's a hassle for them (like our roof tiles, I suspect.....I think they must have been cat 1 billion!!! ) Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Natural Mortar 31Jun 30, 2008 11:39 pm haywgl Ok you have all given me the confidence to atleast ask. The bricks I like from Austral are a cat 1!! I'll let you all know how I go . Happy at Home Re: Natural Mortar 32Mar 29, 2010 3:51 pm We're building with M also, and I don't like bricks at all - unfortunately can't afford to render The only one I really seem to be ok with is Sandy Beach - but I've only seen a small sample board of them...I thought they looked kind of creamy yellow - now i don't know what to think as i HATE orange bricks, yellow, red and brown bricks! LOL! If someone finds out what colour Sandy Beach really looks like as a house in whole, could you pls post? It would be very helpful Thanks!
