Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 24, 2015 1:11 pm Hi all, I am looking at a putting some basic lining / insulating my shed roof. The height of the shed roof is quite low, 210cm dipping to 195cm. In order to maximize the space (height), i was thinking of attaching some polystyrene sheets to the underside of the shed roof with an adhesive. Interested to hear your thoughts? Cheers, Robbie Re: Insulating a shed roof with polystyrene 2May 24, 2015 2:31 pm Have a look at Foilboard , easy to work with. Can it be attached directly to the roof of a shed? Yes you can either cut in between rafters or just go across bottom of them and screw or nail the board. Also you can tape seal joints or edges . It comes in various thicknesses and indeed is a very good product that is easy tot work with and efficient. If you are only insulating a shed no. Anticon blanket insulation is usually applied over rafters and battens, this means you would have to take roof sheets off. Also best to have a 10-20mm gap between your roof sheet and the Polystyrene. a 50mm Polystyrene sheet will have an approx. R1 value, this does change depending on the density of the Polystyrene. as the say...oils aint oils same applies for Polystyrene but the manufacturer will be able to give you data. Re: Insulating a shed roof with polystyrene 10Jun 01, 2015 2:15 pm Thanks, I can keep a 10-20mm gap between the Polystyrene. Does 50mm Polystyrene only have a R1 value? I thought it would be higher than that? I think i read somewhere that the standard for roofs is around R 4? Re: Insulating a shed roof with polystyrene 12Jun 01, 2015 2:50 pm I think ill go with Foilboard (25-30mm), as mentioned above, with a 10-20mm gap would be a good idea.. i think Foilboard works out cheaper than polystyrene (which i didnt know) Re: Insulating a shed roof with polystyrene 13Jul 22, 2015 10:27 am robbie_p I think ill go with Foilboard (25-30mm), as mentioned above, with a 10-20mm gap would be a good idea.. i think Foilboard works out cheaper than polystyrene (which i didnt know) I think you will find foilboard is polystyrene inner with a foil face.
