Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 23, 2015 11:36 pm We bought a land in SA and are currently waiting for soil test and engineering reports. Meanwhile we have decided that we want a heritage style facade similar to the photo Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But we are having trouble deciding colors for everything. At the moment, we are thinking Roof: Shale Grey Gutters: Shale Grey Fascia: cream colour but have not decided on actual colorbond colour - would like it to be the same as the rendering paint colour Brick: PGH Torino Render: cream colour Is shale grey too light in colour? Is Torino too orange? Any suggestions or opinions would be much appreciated 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 3May 24, 2015 10:28 am Thank d@n. Will look into the darker roof options. May be Windspray or Basalt too. Santorini block looks very similar to the sandstone they have in the picture, will definitely check it out, not sure if it is upgrade for our package. Thanks!! 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 4May 26, 2015 11:46 am Went to PGH and Austral yesterday. We like the PGH Chatswood Roman Split but it is a smaller brick and apparently cost 'thousands and thousands' more as they need to transport it from NSW. Didn't like the Santorini Block as much, so we might have to stick with the Torino for now. We also had a chance to look at Ironstone and Woodland Grey, but like the Basalt the best due to its grey-ness. Wonder if there is an online visualizer where we could visualize this selection? 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 5Jul 02, 2015 1:22 am Jin, Are you going through an architect or a pre-constructuon service. I ask because a lot of the 'this goes with that' styling choices can be sorted out by either of these. Where as a builder just gives you a range and says choose. Re: Facade colour 6Jul 02, 2015 2:12 am We were considering of going with a volume builder initially, but after much research, we will probably build via a much smaller builder who is giving us much better flexibility with most part of the build. With bricks, we found that the so-called luxury upgrade from volume builders doesn't actually cost that much more based on PGH's retail price list. The smaller builder we are talking to, on the other hand, is more transparent in their pricing - we can easily compare quotes. So no, we are not going through an architect or pre-construct as such. In fact, it feels like we have hired a site manager (yes the person we are talking to is managing our build) to oversee our build. Site manager have us getting quotes for joineries, tapwares, etc, if he can do better a better price we will use his trades, if he can't he is happy for us to use our own trades. 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 8Jul 02, 2015 4:06 pm Thanks Joker. I had a look at the boral website, is it the Boral Sampler? It only allows for tiled roof visualization but close enough I guess. I think colorbond has a similar thing too. 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 9Jul 02, 2015 5:14 pm Jin We were considering of going with a volume builder initially, but after much research, we will probably build via a much smaller builder who is giving us much better flexibility with most part of the build. That's actually really good of them, none of the "name' builders would let you do that. My post was more about the choice of style rather than price. But my wife and I are Engineers so interior design is not our thing. That's why we had someone help us after we had given them a brief of what we did and didn't like. For us that was the easiest (read less stressful) way to go. Re: Facade colour 10Jul 02, 2015 8:18 pm I see. We didn't hire a 'stylist' but showed the photos to UnitexSA who provides mouldings and quoins and to PGH guy. They gave us some useful advice on how to go about achieving the facade we want without using stone. So will see how it goes when it is all up 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 11Jul 02, 2015 10:42 pm I think Shale grey would be too light and offer poor contrast so go at least basalt. And really to get that look you need large blocks or stone at the front and then you can choose whichever brick you want at the back. Houses like that often have a red brick rear. Look forward to seeing another Adelaide build! Re: Facade colour 12Jul 02, 2015 10:49 pm Hi bluesteel, been following your thread. Love that you have managed to get a double garage approved. We are using Santorini Random for the facade and nougat for the rest of house. We have red bricks at our current house and the look is not my favorite. Santorini Random has some big blocks and some 1/2 and 1/4 size ones, hopefully will be able to recreate the look enough. 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 13Jul 03, 2015 6:05 am Jin Hi bluesteel, been following your thread. That will look lovely, the torino was a bit tan. Were you not able to squeeze in a double garage? The councils various rules are sometimes out of touch with how people live but then again a street full of garages isn't a great neighbourhood feel! Re: Facade colour 14Jul 03, 2015 9:59 am Yah we though the torino looks too orange for our liking too. My block is only 8.84m width so council would not approve for a double garage as there will not be a habitable room facing the front. 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 15Jul 03, 2015 12:43 pm We're going with a light brick, and I found in the visualisation work I did that the mortar had a big influence on how much of that stone-like look you get. With our brick (littlehampton tuscany), when I brought the mortar back to a colour match of the brick, it comes up with much more of the stone feel. I think the approach to use is to go with an off-white cement, light yellow sand, and then use a rolled finish rather than raked. Our block is 20m wide, our counci the garage can't be more than a 1/3 of the width. Whereabouts are you building? Re: Facade colour 18Jul 03, 2015 5:15 pm 20m wide is awesome. We can't afford a 20m wide land in the area we wish to get in. We are building in Klemzig. Most land there are subdivided so will do with what we have 2015 5 June:Land settled 21 Oct: Planning consent granted 2016 28 Jan: Development approval issued 25 Feb: Foundation prep begins Re: Facade colour 20Jul 03, 2015 8:00 pm bluesteel Land is getting expensive everywhere! Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 1033 Dear Members I have to decide the Facade column size. My custom builder standard is 350mm with rendering, but i asked for 470mm plus stone or tiles and yet to get… 0 4291 traditional gable roof facade - Have you did the dark and light gray color combination in facade with gray stone in facade… 0 1825 |
