I am starting to feel like I am simply not cut out to deal with the complications of building a house.
Some of the lessons learnt so far are...
1. Buy your land anywhere you like.. EXCEPT for in a new estate that has developers that want to dictate to you how your new home should look.
2. Go with a Custom Builder!! Don't even waste a moment considering any of the project builders UNLESS you are happy to go with what they offer. DO NOT try to deviate from their standard plans too much or you will just end up paying through the nose for it.
I've joked a few times with my father (custom builder on Gold Coast) that I wish I knew absolutely nothing. That way I could happily believe the total rubbish these project builders try to feed me, nod a few times to look like a understood.. and maybe get them to build a house. It might be their house.. built the way they want it (cause they don't like change). but then, it might suit if you purchase land that has stupid regulations anyhow.
I feel like I am spending over half a mill to build someone else's home.. not mine.
If you have any building knowledge, have a creative flair, like to be a little unique then do yourself a huge favour and look towards the custom builders. They are more than happy to make the changes you want and usually don't charge absurd amounts to do so.
And before anyone makes the obvious comment.. Yes I could have gotten dad to build for me but we are both very strong willed and I wasn't prepared to put that kind of strain on our relationship.
Enough ranting.. I've vented enough and feel a tiny bit better lol.
