I've heard a few times that in our area it costs approx $50k to move. By the time you sell your existing house - solicitors and real estate fees then buy a new place and pay moving costs, solicitors fees again, stamp duty etc, I can see why a lot of people would opt to stay put and put that money into their existing house.
