Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 04, 2015 8:27 pm Hi all, We are a bit stuck on brick choice, just wondering what other people considered when looking at bricks ie quality, slurry?, any pictures that people could show would be great with the name of their brick from either of these companies as our builder only give us this choice in brick suppliers. Many thanks Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 2May 04, 2015 9:21 pm We chose Austral cobalt bricks after looking at both PGH and Austral. Adelaide 3May 04, 2015 11:57 pm They each have a fantastically large 24/7 display in Golden Grove on the same road (practically across from each other. Very handy! I know PGH is staffed from 9-5 Monday-Friday and til 12 Saturdays - they'll give you free samples then. Austral is probably same (don't know as we got PGH). I got a sample of almost every brick and their roof tiles (Monier). Definitely worth a trip as you can compare yourself easily. Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 4May 05, 2015 6:57 am We went there yesterday but are more worried about the cost to upgrade when apparantly we will need 8000 bricks for our home, was hoping to see others that used standard range bricks, though we love the dark colours not sure we can squeeze it in the budget, not when the one we like is like 720 for every thousand! Yikes! Love your home looks almost done! Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 5May 05, 2015 8:32 am The cobalt bricks that we were used were a standard in inclusion with Metricon. We also chose not do the bright white mortar and were still very happy with the outcome. Do you mean they were in their basic entry category range? Our builder had 5 categories of bricks which went up in price. On the whole I thought their basic category (no extra $) was pretty good with plenty of choice. I wanted to add 'Blue Steel Flash' (off their category scale) as a contrast on my porch and balcony only until I found out it would cost an extra $2k. Bricks can add up. Who's your builder Heather? Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 7May 06, 2015 11:22 am We are about to sign with fairmont. We have asked them to add an upgrade to group 2 brick with mortar allowance and then we will sign, I have needed to give up stone benchtops to get bricks, It would be easier to change a bench later Than bricks to a house! Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 8May 16, 2015 8:13 pm Yes, so true. There is a point where you have to draw the line and thats sensible. You'll have to let us know how you go and which bricks you chose. Good luck. Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 9May 16, 2015 8:22 pm Thanks tom cat, got our upgraded brick so think we will go with muscat grey from austral bricks we really like the darker colour Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Adelaide 10May 31, 2015 6:54 pm So we might be changing our mind about our bricks, thinking maybe to go with oyster by pgh or grange by austral, we found a home facade we like which I think uses one of these...anyone else used oyster or grange? Be good to see reviews or pictures Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral? Be good to see reviews or pictures I've selected PHG Oyster bricks for my home. These are going up as I type! Hoping to get a better picture on the weekend. It's dark by the time I get home from work so this picture was taken at night with flash. Re: BRICKS, Pgh or Austral?
