Hi All,
I would like to seek advice on a situation.
I am based in Melbourne. A bathroom renovation company recently completed a bathroom renovation last week. The bathroom is on the second level. I have not paid the final invoice yet because there are two small things the bathroom company needs to fix tomorrow Monday (4th May). My partner and I moved back into our home on Saturday (2nd May) after 7 weeks. We used the shower last night (we have a shower/ bathtub setup). Probably after a good 1 hour of using the new bathroom I noticed a portion of my carpet outside the bathroom was soaking (around the walls). It got me very worried. I went downstairs to check and to my horror there was a a lot of water pooling on my timber flooring in the kitchen area and in the 2nd bedroom (which also has timber flooring). Looking at the wall in the 2nd bedroom I notice water marks. The corner where the section of wall meets the ceiling. From what I can assess, water has probably cascade behind the wall and spilled out under the skirting on both the kitchen and 2nd bedroom.
My main concern is what possible damage caused behind the walls and potential damage which can occur in the future. Overall I plan to seek compensation for any loss and damages.
Has anyone been in a situation where a renovation went wrong and sought legal action against the renovation company? Just some background, the company I used is registered to HIA and Master builders.
Regards,
Gerald
