Browse Forums General Discussion Re: How to power a Wi-Fi router from an electric door bell? 2Apr 29, 2015 3:14 pm I'm not sure of what you are asking... What do you mean by power? Are you trying to use the same power circuit? Are you trying to start your wifi router from the doorbell? Are you trying to get an IP doorbell running so that if the door bell rings you can get notified on an internet connected device (such as a smart phone)? Is it something else? A single/double socket seems to imply you want to plug in? A door bell tends to be either wired in or run via battery... Your question may be better in the Whirlpool forums where the more technical folk hang out Re: How to power a Wi-Fi router from an electric door bell? 3Apr 29, 2015 4:42 pm yvonneh I'm not sure of what you are asking... A door bell tends to be either wired in or run via battery... Your question may be better in the Whirlpool forums where the more technical folk hang out I have the wired electric doorbell. It rings when one pushes the button outside the door. I have the wired wi-fi router but don't have free power socket to plug the router in. So I want to plug the router to the cable by which the door bell is powered. But I heared that it's impossible to power two devices from one cable that's why I need a power socket which will play function of a junction box. But my dilemma is what type of a socket to use - a single or a double one? yvonneh Are you trying to get an IP doorbell running so that if the door bell rings you can get notified on an internet connected device (such as a smart phone)? Is it something else? No I don't want to make an IP doorbell. The router and the doorbell will work separately. Re: How to power a Wi-Fi router from an electric door bell? 4Apr 29, 2015 10:14 pm Use a double adapter, a couple of bucks from K Mart. No problem running both devices from the one point, neither will draw much power. Re: How to power a Wi-Fi router from an electric door bell? 7May 02, 2015 9:12 am From the look of your door bell, it seems that the transformer is somewhere else as it is quite common for a wired setup. If so, the voltage from those 2 wires will be much lower than anything you want. Re: How to power a Wi-Fi router from an electric door bell? 8May 02, 2015 10:11 am It appears that the board is marked 230v. There is also a double insulated symbol and the wires are blue and brown. All suggesting it runs on mains power. But is probably switched at the door bell push button. Hi everyone!
