Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 01, 2015 3:21 pm Hey guys, we have been in our home for almost 3 years - and I have noticed that we have very slightly (and i cant stress how slight they are) uneven sections of our slab which you can feel if standing in certain spots that one foot is very slightly higher/lower than the other. We have vinyl planks which basically go straight on the concrete so I guess there isn't much between the concrete and the floor itself. There are about 3 or so spots where I can definitely feel it, and there is a section that when the light is shining on it, I can actually see a small shadow. I just want to know if I am being pedantic and that it is almost impossible to get a slab 100% level or whether it sounds like there is an issue with the slab. It's one of those things that guests never noticed, but I know it's there and see it all the time! Any help, tips or info would be greatly appreciated! Cheers Re: Slightly uneven concrete slab 2Apr 01, 2015 4:40 pm If you use a straight edge or level 2m long to run across the floor, even with the vinyl you should get a true indication. Is this something you have just noticed? or has it been there all along? If it seems new then check doors wall and cornices in the area for any signs of cracking, they may give away if there's been recent movement, if there are signs of movement beyond hairline cracking then contact your builder. If its been there from the start then you've missed the boat i'm sorry. If it falls outside the tolerances allowed for concrete then at the the time of construction it would have been deemed to be defective and would have been entitled to have the slab ground or filled. However this is not considered a structural defect, so under the structural defects warranty it would not be covered. Here is a link to the Qld standards and tolerances, http://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/sites/defaul ... uide_0.pdf Re: Slightly uneven concrete slab 3Apr 01, 2015 4:57 pm kitchdog Hey guys, we have been in our home for almost 3 years - and I have noticed that we have very slightly (and i cant stress how slight they are) uneven sections of our slab which you can feel if standing in certain spots that one foot is very slightly higher/lower than the other. Vinyl flooring planks applied direct to slab should have a surface preparation done prior to placing flooring down. This can extend to slight grinding and levelling using a special compound. It is a job that may require an expert floor tradesperson. Re: Slightly uneven concrete slab 4Apr 02, 2015 9:07 am Did you glue the planks down or are they the Klic plancks? You can use a self leveler compound if the floor is slightly out, Do they look good?, we are having 100m layed in our new place over the slab Re: Slightly uneven concrete slab 5Apr 02, 2015 3:01 pm Thanks for the info guys - I am not sure if it has been there since day one or not, and these other uneven sections I am finding could have been there all along, and I am only noticing them now because I am aware and looking out for them! We had someone do the planks but I think they are glued - and yeah do they look very good and are great for wiping up spills of practically anything! I hope this help you newhome_24, AS3958.1 is the Ceramic Tile Installation Standard. It specifies the tolerances for the installation of tiles. The tile supplier is… 1 7390 I don't think you're getting a response because you are not quite clear on what the issue is. yep, the site is not level, no site is! but are you just building a garage?… 1 2263 The concreter will take and reuse. In my case I bought structural LVLs and scraped them back and used them as joists. 1 5153 |
