Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 26, 2015 9:39 pm Did anyone here build a home with fowler homes from 2010-2013? Found out my home 2 storey home is covered in infinity cables. Spoke to the electrical contractor initially and they flat out denied ever using the cable. I sent them proof of the cable and they came out straight away and checked my cable. Reported Friday, came following Tuesday. Apparently they had a report saying the infinity cable I had installed was ok? Funny how they could get this report so quickly when they apparently never used this cable before. Received only 2 pages out of the 13 pages. Requested all the pages twice but no answer. Guess I'll have to get an independent sparky in to check and then contact ACCC. Just seems all so suss. Has anyone else out there built there home with fowler and found out there was inifinity cables installed? Re: fowler homes - infinity cables 2Mar 27, 2015 8:16 am Before you contact the ACCC have a read of this article for a bit more info... https://www.masterbuilders.asn.au/build ... ical-cable then click on the recall guidelines which takes you to this article https://www.accc.gov.au/update/infinity ... ble-recall at the ACCC website ( if you haven't had a read of that article already ). Don't hold your breath either. The wheels of bureaucracy turn slowly. Stewie Re: fowler homes - infinity cables 3Mar 27, 2015 8:42 am Was speaking to someone the other day, and the impression I was given was that whilst the cable cost will be refunded, getting it out of your walls and replacement with new cable will effectively be a cost put back on to the home owner ! Not a very nice thing to a home owner who had no say whatsoever as to what cable was used in their home. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. After spending $300- 400-500k building a house and someone wanting to save a few bucks installed a material not fit for purpose, I'd sue that pants off them. I'd also make it abundantly clear that if the house burnt down because of their incompetence I'd drag them through the courts and get Channel 7 or 9 involved. You should also read those articles I link to above. I think the onus is on the supplier and installer for both labour and materials. And that is what my expectation and any normal persons expectation should be. No one said put sub standard cabling in, but at install time it was put in as cabling supposedly meeting standards. If a sparky guts out a house of all that cabling that was later discovered as being sub standard, it appears the sparky will be out of pocket for the labour side of things, as the supplier is apparently not going to reimburse the sparky for this. Of course, the home owner rightly has the expectation of their home being built with cabling that meets standard. Owner Building at Jimboomba Woods in Logan City Qld. Re: fowler homes - infinity cables 7Mar 28, 2015 7:45 pm After the manufacturer infinity going broke almost immediately after this was discovered, the retailer being masters is going to foot the cost for replacement of cable that is accessible or near a heat source. Any cable not under this criteria remains responsibility of the installer. They are lobbying however to also get the responsibility of this also put onto the retailer (masters). It was cheap chinese cable, enough said. I don't think there was enough done in asking the question as to how it was ever allowed for sale. This is why I don't shop at masters, they are full of no name untested products. Re: fowler homes - infinity cables 8Mar 28, 2015 9:21 pm I seem to recall a batch of faulty 3/4" copper pipe brought in from Asia about 25 years ago that was quickly taken off the market. The thickness of the pipe varied widely from 2mm to wafer thin causing multiple problems as you can imagine. Stewie I would never build with Fowler homes.
