What is the difference between these two options for a bearers and joists floor construction and which is better.

Thanks Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 2Mar 20, 2015 8:35 am The H2 means that it has been treated with chemicals against termite ingress. Yellow tongue hasn't. If you want to give your house one more layer of protection against termites then the H2 sheet flooring would be the way to do it although if they get as far as your flooring then you have much more serious problems. Stewie Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 3Mar 20, 2015 10:14 am Thanks Stewie. As always!!! So would you recommend the H2 over yellow tongue or if there is adequate protection elsewhere it is ok? Is one significantly more costly than the other. We really should get a QS to look at the tenders but I just don't know if we have time, yes.. I know.. famous last words. The one with yellow tongue specifies supply and install Homeguard termite protection and pre-fab H2 treated pine wall frames and roof trusses, but not the floor. Another has "All frames and trusses in H2 treated timer Garage to have termimesh to perimeterGal antcaps to sub floor", particle board flooring throughout" ? Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 4Mar 20, 2015 11:05 am If there is no huge difference in the price I'd say go for the H2 sheets. You should be able to google a few prices for both. I think yellowtongue is around $42 per 3600 x 900 x 19mm sheet ( over 450mm spaced joists ). Work out how many sq m your house is then divide by the 3600 x 900mm sheet ( 3.24 sq m ). That'll tell you how many sheets you need then work out the total price difference. Don't let the builder tell you there is extra to lay these sheets either. Stewie Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 5Mar 20, 2015 11:32 am Great thanks a lot. Also one more thing, our preferred quote has the tender price plus an amount for insurance. At the end there are the PC items with the amounts set out against each and the total with/without GST. I know I can just ask him but without sounding like an idiot, assume these PC items are included in that tender price (with appropriate increase or decrease on final contract price as we go). I know it is not ideal but thinking to increase the PC items where we think it needs it to avoid going over and get the credits back at the end, to avoid having to ask more money from bank when I am on leave. Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 6Mar 20, 2015 6:03 pm Yes, Those PC amounts should be included in the tender price. One thing is to check is that the PC amounts are comparable between tenders. Some may list a lower PC amount to make their tender seem cheaper. On the other hand some may specify a particular item or model rather than a PC amount for it where as the one with the greater PC amount may be actually dearer when comparing apples. As for the Yellow tongue, it comes in yellow tongue in 2 versions so make sure the one that didn't list H2 actually isn't before actually counting that against them. It is a fair job counting apples for apples unless you provided a pretty detailed scope originally As for insurance, Which state are you in? also make sure both have included an insurance amount in the tender Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 7Mar 23, 2015 9:58 am 33amc Yes, Those PC amounts should be included in the tender price. We are culpable to some extent as we didn't have the opportunity to provide a detailed list of fixtures and fitting. We are in NSW, both are registered appropriately for insurances, I checked. It is just one adds the cost of the premium onto the tender; the other is included subsumed into the tender price as their cost of doing business and they do not itemise it specifically. I note one has a PC amount for excavation and scaffolding (we are a split level so hopefully neither will be significant, its bearers and joists) and the other includes "scaffolding to complete the work" and excavation with the usual exclusions (bad ground, rock). While hopefully neither will be high given our site conditions and plan it seems better to include it in the price rather than as a PC amount? As I fear it is an item which could go up unexpectedly. Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 8Mar 23, 2015 10:41 pm Out of interest, is there much between the 2 prices when PC's are added. It is OK to provide a longer list of PC amounts as long as it is a reasonable amount. I've even heard people suggesting having steel reinforcing as a PC amount during the times when the pries were seeing ridiculous increase after ridiculous increase. Perhaps try asking the slab type the costed one gives and also the slab type the PC'd one was based on. But then if it was PC'd they probably didn't base it on anything Re: H2 partcicle board v 19mm yellow tongue particle board 9Mar 26, 2015 8:33 am 33amc Out of interest, is there much between the 2 prices when PC's are added. We decided to go for the tender which superficially looks like it had less 'inclusions' and confirmed this decision with some expert advice. The PC items on the other contract also included some items which made us wary such as excavation, removal of spoil. and scaffolding. Although we don't expect a lot of excavation we preferred the other. Hi guys, I want to do some floor levelling before laying the planks and am considering doing it with self-levelling or yellow tongue PB board. I am wondering which one… 0 3930 Thanks for clarifying.
