After welcoming a few people and saying how much we like photos I was feeling increasing guilty about not having any photo's of the house we purchased and have been in for two months..... .....I dragged out my good camera and tried to take a few decent shots around the house - the compact camera just wasn't cutting it. Photo's still don't do it justice so I've added some of the real estate agent photos as well. Anyway sit back, relax, and I'll give you a guided tour, and show you the things we want to change to add our "touch" to it....so welcome to Casa de TDL. The bluestone front drive and garage, there's a bit of attic storage space in the garage, I've investigated and there's a few things I can hide up there, such as the Chevy Chase style christmas decorations. I really like the kitchen, floorboards, japanese garden & large windows.
You've done well. DH reckons those cow patties will make a great fertilizer for the garden . Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 4Jun 22, 2008 7:04 am Beautiful Mike!
Love all the timber - floors, exposed beams etc. How old is the house? It looks from the outside quite established yet you're obviously in a semi-rural spot...nice! Your older DS has a fantastic bed (hides laptop from own DS he'd love one of those ) Interesting re feature walls ... maybe former owner was mates with Paula's former owner... How big is the block? Simone Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 5Jun 22, 2008 9:17 am WOW TDL I love all the timber through out the house. You are right about those feature walls. They really have got to go and like you said the other grey-white wall colour certainly doesn't really make the most of the timber flooring and timber window frames. I do like the colour on the kitchen walls though. It looks lovely with the cupboards in there. It also gives a bit of separation from the rest of the room. Hmm something we might have to think about in our new house. Your current back verandah is great too.
I can see what you mean about the view. Gotta get a look at those cows. Perhaps you can reuse the timber fence to hide the shed. I think you have got a wonderful find in that house TDL. I can imagine my 10 yr old DS being horrified at the flowered walls too. oo Edit: Your DS is 10 mnths old. Sigh I want your front door and the lovely wooden sliders. DH couldn't be convinced on timber sliders. I kept trying to get him to agree to timber frames but he wouldn't budge. Was not even to be convinced to big metal alfresco doors.. Oh well I tried. That is a gorgeous home you have there, can't wait to see your updated photos with you own choice in colours! My DD would have a ball in that backyard!! My karma ran over your dogma Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 7Jun 22, 2008 10:03 am Mike,
Thanks for the superb tour of your house. It's a great base, but as you mentioned, the interior colours need to be worked on. Michelle would have a field day with your place. It looks solid and the floorboards look great. Do you know what wood the floorboards are and what sort of finish? We look forward to seeing the transformation. Cheers, Casa Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 8Jun 22, 2008 11:10 am Love your house Mike!
Hope that we can get that type of *homely* (not sure if that is the right word to use ) feel about our new home. Love all the rustic influence & I'm sure it will look even better once you've made a few cosmetic changes. Great buy! Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 9Jun 22, 2008 11:46 am Thanks for the tour Mike! Love the house, agree with you on all the changes you want to make, can't believe the three "feature" walls in one room!
Can't wait to see your progress, better keep that camera handy! Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 11Jun 22, 2008 12:08 pm It is a very good house, a few things may need to be redone, but mostly the house is good, especially i like to garden, it is something i really want

I don't actually mind the colour but the previous owners just waaaay overdid it.
I think it'd be relaxing to come home after a stressful day and just watch he cows. Thank you for sharing the pics Dana -------------------------- Building with DFH - carpet installed! Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 14Jun 22, 2008 2:16 pm Thanks for the tour Mike, It looks fantastic, congratulations!!!
I love the warmth of your floorboards (what timber is it- do you know?), the staircase and the feature timber work. I agree that a creamier colour would bring out the warmth of the timber. Good Choice! Lots of light in the house too. I can't wait to see what you guys do to the house. I really like the brickwork, it gives it such a homely, country feel. Somewhere you could walk in and look forward to sitting down in front of a fire and just relax....as you say, like a B&B. The backyard is just magic, the kids have plenty of space to run and kick a ball. So what first on your list to do then??? Come on, show us your list????? Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 15Jun 22, 2008 8:24 pm I want your home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has such a nice feel to it/look to it!
I love the Japanese garden space! Particularly as many of new are building or living in very funky modern houses.
To answer some specific questions. The original builder - Keogh Homes - is still around and gave us a copy of the construction drawings. Keogh Homes build a select number of houses and generally custom build - as this one is - they have two or three spec plans but they are nominal only. The drawing are date stamped 2000 so it would have been finished in 2001-ish. The estate is on the western most fringe of Melbourne....the area behind is not likely to be developed in the next 10 years as they are doing a large development to our south. And with Point Cook down the road, and Wyndham Vale up the road, the development effort is being expended elsewhere. It's a late 90's estate with larger blocks ours is about 1100 sq.m. The doors, frames, skirts, windows are all hardwood. I have no idea what the floor is, needs a good buffing but other than that it's been well looked after. I'm more and more inclined to borrow the views as I could think of nothing better than a cuppa on the verandah watching the moos go by...such peaceful animals. My to_do_list is very long. Immediate major items are modernising the cooking appliances - they've been delivered just need to be installed - a bit ceiling plasterwork where we getting rid of a few exhaust fans ilo of IXL's, bit more minor electrical, redoing the mantle for the TV and sorting out the stereo configuration, painting will be done room by room DW will be doing it and she's extremely fussy with paintwork (FIL was an old skool painter/decorator - did things the right way), and I almost forgot need to rebuild the cubby which was from the old place....with some minor extensions...must say 4yo has been very patient with this project. Again thanks for all the kind words...... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 17Jun 23, 2008 10:08 am Mike, got half way through a post to you last night when DH came in with dinner - left the browser open to come back but didnt get there!! My post was gone!!
Here goes again. Yeah photos at last!!! It bought back memories of my feature walls (yes they are only memories now ). My god what were they thinking doing 4 in one room??? They are not easy to go over, power tool sanding was needed. Your 4 year olds room is so cute, my DS had a **** Johnson bed!! You babys room is so cute, but I can see not for him When you repaint your woodwork wil be a lovely feature. The front of your house has a welcoming look to it! Quote: he front door, there's a passenger door to the left which you can just see...chair will be a hall stand when it grows up.....!....oh and obligatory things with sticks! How long does it take for a chair to grow up?? Love the stair case, your floors give your home a warm feel. You will have to make your japanese garden a kid free zone, just for adults to relax - you need a steam bath there!! How lucky are your children to have cows!! Thats one great BBQ area, good space for the informal BBQ or the serious cocktial party. I can see you are going to have lots of fun with your back yard, cant wait to see the progress pics. The dead side is perfect for a cricket pitch of footy run!! My DS would love that! Wow you must be proud - and how much eaiser was that over building? Did we do the right thing?? Absolutly!! Paula Re: Château TDL....Flow Color tick and minor update! 18Jun 23, 2008 10:14 am TDL - Your place looks fantastic. If we had found something like that we woudnt have bothered building!!
