We are wanting to install a dishwasher in our kitchen but we have no dishwasher space We have a well equipped kitchen with ample cupboard space but no space seperate for a dishwasher so what to do?????? Who to call??? Do we first call a plumber to see where to install it?? or shall we call a cabinet maker? Either way we will have to do away with a cupboard or two..That I am sure about. Please Help.. Clueless Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 2Jun 19, 2008 8:09 pm I've had to do this before, I did it my self *shh* I gutted a cupboard and used some of that material for filler board, ran the water hoses through the back of the cupboards and plumbed it into the sink water and drain. It's got a bit on pros and cons, but also on installation. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 4Jun 19, 2008 8:24 pm Hi Amber,
In our last house we had the same situation. It was the very first thing on my list of improvements! We had no idea either, so we went to Harvey Norman and selected a dishwasher, and they gave us a contact to make a space and install it. You could probably look up the classifieds section of your local paper for a tradie too. The cost of making the space and installing, though, was almost as much as the dishwasher itself though, so make sure you budget for it! We have a space in the kitchen island bench with a dishwasher (which was a standard inclusion with the house). We've been there over 3 months now & it still has the styrofoam packaging inside . Always washed dishes in the sink & I guess we'll get used to using the dishwasher once / if we use it. I know it comes in handy if you're entertaining & easier to throw them in the machine & not worry about them, but we wouldn't miss it if it wasn't there & would love the extra cupboard space! Anyone else with me on this?? Mike. My Blog... http://ahouseonthehill.blogspot.com/ Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 7Jun 20, 2008 3:39 pm OK, here we go again......
Firthy, at the risk of sounding like a stuck record, (as I have made my point on several previous threads including the one TDL is referring to), I am not interested in a dishwasher; our standard plan includes a dishwasher provision, ie space set up, plumbing, electrical etc ready to connect, and we are just leaving it as cupboard space and have no plans to install a dishwasher. Firthy, so glad to hear I'm not the only one - us hand washers are a dying breed!! Must start a support group for beleagured hand washers Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 8Jun 20, 2008 3:46 pm Dishwashers....nasty things never know who's been inside....

Well just sell the dishwasher and get a cupboard made to fit in the space Best Price Wardrobes Sliding door robes | Walk in robes Deco panel | Mirror | Melamine 26 to 28 Cottage lane Hackham M: 0402 927 376 http://www.bestpricewardrobes.com.au Trade welcome Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 11Jun 20, 2008 6:20 pm Do you have a modern modular kitchen then it might not be to bad.
Ideally you want a nice 600mm wide cabinet next to the sink which allot of people include so you can install a dishwasher later. If thats the case then its more or less just power since a plumber should be able to organise something under the sink. Oh and when you get one keep the door shut and your pets wount get in probably be a touch easier to walk around the kitchen without the doors open. I used to think dishwasher where a bit of a waste but dam if i know how i lived with out it. Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 13Jun 21, 2008 12:28 am so where you lot when I was trying to say I didn't think I should get a dishwasher space!!!!!!
Hmm and what's with the 600mm I'm sure I was told 640 so that was what i told the builder to supply. At least that's what Kevin mentioned.---> "IMO its best to at least make provision for a dishwasher If you dont have one installed when the kitchen is put in...have a cupboard made to fit in the space (640mm wide) Thats 600 for the dishwasher and an allowance fo fillers" Re: KITCHEN WITHOUT DISHWASHER SPACE TO INSTALL ONE 14Jun 21, 2008 9:37 am kexkez so where you lot when I was trying to say I didn't think I should get a dishwasher space!!!!!! Oh well then, Hmm so that then necessitates the need of a cabinet maker to build the filler. drats. So I've wasted 40mm of cupboard space for something that I don't need ( given there will be no dishwasher going in the space) and annoyed the SC with a demand for a non standard space. No wonder she looked at me strange. Hmm IF and a big if ,we do one day decide to get a dishwasher I'll happily live without the filler and anyone who bought the house can live with it too. It's certainly not a standard here in friends houses with dishwashers. Hopefully it's not too late to change it back to 600. ... DH seems to think we should still be able to get it changed back.
