Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 15, 2015 11:43 am Hi all, I have an old, ugly, brown sliding cavity door between my main bedroom and WIR. To me, they see, very old fashioned and probably not needed. With that in mind, what your views on cavity doors? Keep them or get rid of them? I took the door down (as im considering painting it). The sliding door sits on a metal rail, which extends well into the dry wall. How would i have the rail removed as the rail is fastened with screws which are deep within the dry wall. Any ideas? Cheers, Robbie Re: Cavity sliding doors - stay or go? 2Feb 15, 2015 11:54 am ..if i do keep the cavity / sliding door.. i will still need to replace the old metal rail as the door isnt sliding well and keeps coming of the rail.. which still leaves me with the problem of removing the old metal rail. Re: Cavity sliding doors - stay or go? 3Feb 15, 2015 12:07 pm I would remove the cavity door as I have found them a pain. Best to cut the rail using a mini Hacksaw (http://www.bunnings.com.au/trojan-mini-hacksaw_p5710143) and a fair bit of patience. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: Cavity sliding doors - stay or go? 5Feb 15, 2015 12:52 pm If you are going to leave the pocket, why just take the track? If you want it to look like it's just a square opening why not just run some jamb around to cap it all off. Most newer cavities have a 4 wheel buggy and don't come off like the old 2 wheel system which I think you are describing Re: Cavity sliding doors - stay or go? 6Feb 15, 2015 1:20 pm I guess I'm not sure how the doorway will look with everything capped off as well as it will match with other doorways. Plus you loose a little bit of head space but the additional capping. If i can remove the rail, the only cavity i will need to capped would be the one where the sliding door slides in and out. we have a standard size and often we have a lot of variety to choose 0 3575 We are looking for sliding doors which are 5 metres tall.
