Can rusty mesh be used for slab reinforcements? Loose / flakey rust is a different issue! Once the steel is in place with the correct cover (at least 40mm) no further corrosion should occur. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! I would prefer for them to clean it off just for piece of mind. Went back to the site and had a closer look at the mesh and it's solid, not flaking just very "evenly rusted"... However, I have written to the builder and sent them a photo just so that I can have peace of mind that they know and should do something about it if it's not right. This week is supposed to have plumbing prelay and footings layed, but so far no action on our site yet!
