Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 07, 2015 4:45 pm Hi there - first time post....many thanks to all who contribute here Have a question re block of land and connection points. 1) I requested Legal Point of Discharge diagram from our local council. Map shows connection line to easement in the rear neighbours back yard. The gravity sewer (or riser?) connection point on our block is approx 2.5m in from right hand rear corner of our block and 1m in from the back fence 2) I requested Sewerage plan from local Local water authority. Map provided shows connection line to easement in the rear neighbours back yard. Connection point on our block is approx 6.4m in from right hand rear corner and 1m in from back fence. Have been advised that the sewer connection is approx 2.9m underground 3) We have a concrete pit 20m away from both of these points in the left hand corner of the block (back fence is 30m long) I have also looked at power/gas/potable water/telstra maps for our block and cant see anywhere these connect to this concrete pit. I am getting a plumber (friend of mine) to inspect the pit to find out what it is - my questions are: 1) Should the sewerage and LPOD points normally have a concrete lid on top of them? If so, how far down would I need to dig to find it ? (the block has had fill laid on top) 2) If this concrete pit in the left hand side is the connection point, does it mean there is a pipe running 20m down the back of our block to the actual connection point listed on the map or could there a different connection to the easement (not shown on the maps) ? 3) Should I get an asset locator or a plumber to find out where the pipes are? I spoke to one asset locator - he was very helpful but mentioned that finding sewerage connection points can be difficult.... Reason for all this - we are trying to design house with pool in the rear and want to avoid redoing the plans if the connection points are not where the maps say they are. In other words, what is the best way to find the path of stormwater/sewerage pipes if the maps are not correct... Many thanks for the help SB Re: Block of land - sewerage, stormwater connection point he 2Feb 07, 2015 5:00 pm The large concrete slab will be the cover of a 'Manhole' It is quite common for the individual connection point to be at a junction in the pipe between manholes, rather than the 'manhole' itself. If the main pipeline runs in a neighbour's block there is normally a length of pipe laid from the junction to a point on your side of the boundary. All that you will probably find is then end of a pipe with a plug in. The way that the points are recorded is by measuring the distance of the junction from the centre of the manhole. Or just get a plumber to investigate ? Thanks again SB Re: Block of land - sewerage, stormwater connection point he 4Feb 07, 2015 9:25 pm Yes don't build over the points! Another thing to think about is keeping the house foundations (and the pool) away from the Zone of Influence of the Main pipes.
