Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 02, 2015 11:06 pm Just wondering if it is the norm for most builders to NOT accept materials that the client may have or be able to supply? I am apparently allowed to provide my own light fittings, yet I am unable to provide roof insulation. The builder supplies ceiling batts as standard and only foil to the underside of the metal roof. They can provide insulation blankets, at a extra cost of course, but can not accept the rolls of insulation I already have as it may cause faults. Hmmm... I would be inclined to think that my light fittings have more potential to cause a fault than simple insulation rolls. Re: Builder won't accept our materials? 2Feb 03, 2015 9:10 am Was it discussed before contract / work started ? We did lights - but not insulation. You could have asked them to upgrade insulation I guess. Re: Builder won't accept our materials? 3Feb 03, 2015 9:22 am Yeah not at contract stage yet. We get to see he first set of plans on Monday. Yes they will upgrade the insulation but I was hoping to use the materials I already have rather than paying for the same thing. I would check what was agreed before the work started and if it wasn't agreed you could be at a loss sorry Re: Builder won't accept our materials? 5Feb 05, 2015 11:01 am Contract not signed yet so will be "Negotiating" this issue on Monday Cheers, Paul (& Lisa) Parkhill 36 by ClarendonHomes in Coomera Retreat H1 Build Thread And Blog Building Blogs List - Go Ahead And Add Yours!! Re: Builder won't accept our materials? 10Feb 05, 2015 4:55 pm Yep it will be insurance and warranty - they can't cover it and if anything goes wrong who's at fault and who replaces it? I wouldn't want to give them the out if there is an issue in future- would be a nightmare to unwind if there's a fire etc. Rebecca Jarrett-Dalton Property crazy expert mortgage broker, love building new homes! Especially when it's fitted between the roof sheet and batten and no where near anything electrical.
