Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 30, 2015 9:58 am For building standards, I am in suburban Melbourne. I have an existing building in my back yard made of concrete blocks, double narrow block with concrete filling on the back wall which is a retaining wall and single larger blocks for the rest of the building. I want to build a workshop on top of the existing block structure using timber frame construction. I will probably reinforce and fill the larger blocks with concrete if they are not filled already to increase the strength of the existing walls. What is the best way to attach a bottom plate to a block wall like this? Internet searching has picked up a number of options like J-bolts set into concrete fill and anchor straps but I am not sure of what is commonly used in Melbourne, nor do I know the specific terminology that we use here. It is funny, I know timber framing and full block construction but have never needed to mate the two of them Thanks in advance. Richard. This is 100% true.
