At the moment there is a very ugly "make shift" rail and no drawer / storage space. The walk in wardrobe is between the main room and en suite. Each side has about 140cm (length) and about 80cm (deep). I am looking at putting some shelving / stoage and rail on each side. I have only looked at Ikea but dont really like their walk in wardrobes. I was wondering if you guys have any other ideas for a basic walk in wardrobe? Thanks in advance. Regards, Robbie Re: Walk in wardobe ideas 3Jan 23, 2015 7:10 am There are people who do these things - specialist cupboard/wardrobe people. But - I'd always have sufficient shelf space - imo this is often overlooked. Don't try to be trendy - go practical ... Re: Walk in wardobe ideas 4Jan 23, 2015 11:48 am We have opted to delete our shelve and rail that the builder supplies. We saw some 'flatpack' options at Ikea that gave us some great ideas of what we want. Might be worth checking them out. Will definitely follow this thread for some ideas. Re: Walk in wardobe ideas 5Jan 23, 2015 11:54 am In our first house (the one we are moving of today...in the rain!) we had a really small WIR area. We need space for shoes/bags (me) and hats (DH) - so shelving was major for us. If you go to my first thread (below), page 27 has some pics. We had sufficient hanging (still had a chest of drawers in addition to those shown in the WIR), but even the shelving shown wasn't enough for us - we still had hats on hats and shoes stacked in the garage. Depends on what you're trying to store though - if you have more hanging, you could take out one of the shelving sections and turn that into hanging. Basically we had one section of full length hanging on the left, a section of 2xhalf lengths; the drawers shown also had hanging above them which we didn't have to use (I had some winter jumpers there). Its appears that the options at Ikea / Bunnings seem to be quite popular, so we will give those a try. We were just worried that the Ikea / Bunnings shelving might look "cheap", but they seem to be the most practical. Re: Walk in wardobe ideas 7Jan 23, 2015 1:01 pm robbie_p Thanks guys! We were just worried that the Ikea / Bunnings shelving might look "cheap", but they seem to be the most practical. I guess it all depends on your budget. The look of the shelving in our WIR doesn't really worry me, as long as it is practical. I would rather spend the money on the living spaces etc...
