Re: Panel lift or roller garage door? 24Jun 23, 2015 9:47 pm Like many of the posts before I prefer the look of a panel lift, but practicality wins and I'd pick a roller door so I can swing stuff from the ceiling (like a kayak). I don't think there is much difference in the way of noise. Re: Panel lift or roller garage door? 25Jun 30, 2015 9:22 am I have a panel lift (didn't have a choice) and I wish I had a roller. I recently had to replace the main drive gear and shaft in the head unit (5 years since installed). The support plate that holds the shaft in place had worn, the chain sprocket became misaligned and then the chain kept derailing. $300 later (parts and labor) the door is fixed. If you have a lot of stuff, the ceiling space can be used to hang certain items. I suspend a kayak from the ceiling in my garage. The panel door eats up about half the space of the ceiling to operate which I see as just a waste. Re: Panel lift or roller garage door? 27Jul 07, 2015 2:19 pm Thank you all. Our garage is South facing so no need really to insulate from heat, but we will go with the panel lift anyway, perhaps we will find a way to insulate somehow to make the garage slightly less cold in winter!
