What I want to know is if anyone was able to move on to a new contract with a different builder? Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 2Jan 16, 2015 8:59 pm it should be possible to void the contract but you really need to get a lawyer involved. If the builder has provided a false insurance certificate it looks like they are probably bankrupt. Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 6Jan 18, 2015 1:33 am Have you contacted Consumer Affairs? Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 7Jan 18, 2015 8:03 am Were they a small builder - its an odd thing to do - but may save them quite a bit if they did it every time. Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 8Jan 18, 2015 8:12 am I have been contacting Victorian building Association, LIV, Submitted formal complaints to VBA. All they have been doing was passing each other. VBA also one time told to me wait until the contract is 50% over the allocated time before I should do any complaints and now I am hit with this bomb of an issue. Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 9Jan 18, 2015 8:36 am May be a silly question, but do you have concerns they aren't going to finish? Concerns with quality of work? If they are doing an alright job, and no major structural issues and they are completing everything OK so far, I'd think it'd be cheaper just to let them finish than mess around with lawyers, new contracts and builders? Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 10Jan 18, 2015 9:17 am enquirer Has anyone in the middle of a build experienced the builder submitted a fake insurance policy on the contract and then was found out and thus was told to stop. What I want to know is if anyone was able to move on to a new contract with a different builder? Ummmm wow. Are you certain it's fake??? If you wan't works to stop immediately then let the surveyor know along with the appropriate evidence and they will direct the builder to cease. Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 11Jan 18, 2015 9:31 am Goodness gracious me. + 1 seano If the builder goes insolvent, they can't touch your house I wouldn't think. What's the issue in letting the builder do work until you believe that point will come? I'm just throwing it out there so don't jump all over me. Re: Voiding of contract through a fake insurance policy 12Jan 18, 2015 2:01 pm The builder was caught out by the insurance company and it was the builder and surveyor who told things had to stop. I wanted to let them finished the job even though the build was behind by 6 months. if I had the choice and leave the lawyers out of the picture.
