Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 15, 2015 6:26 pm I'm doing screening throughout my tiled areas and will have a step at the carpeted areas. What's the most cost effective solution to increase the floor level in the carpeted areas? Yellow tongue is about $40/ sheet and I need about 30 sheets. Are there cheaper alternatives? Re: What to do with floor level 3Jan 16, 2015 5:13 am I'm guessing I'll need 19 or 22mm because the screed will be about 25mm plus 10-12 for tile overall being 37mm. If ply is 19 carpet 15 then that's 4mm higher still. Anyone else use other methods? Also how did you anchor the ply? Re: What to do with floor level 6Jan 16, 2015 10:59 am I'd use a bostic ultaset and a 10mm notched trowel, with the yellow tongue. That would give you the extra 3-4 mm in height you need. What stage is your build at? you may have to raise your doorheads in the carpeted areas.Hopefully the jambs aren't in. Nope I nearly just at lockup. The jambs and the like are a little off yet. I wasn't a fan of glueing only because if I did ever decide to pull it up is have a hell of a time. Also what moisture barrier protecting is needed? Re: What to do with floor level 8Jan 16, 2015 5:47 pm If you are going to use some sort of sheet flooring,or for that matter t&g flooring,it has to be glued down.Sounds like your in trouble. Why do you need the screed?,If this is necessary the slab should have been rebated in these areas. The moisture barrier is under the slab already. Re: What to do with floor level 9Jan 16, 2015 6:13 pm I'm not putting t&g flooring on top, just carpet. I originally got the screed because I was getting rectified tiles, this is no longer but my builder won't give me a credit for what the screed is really worth so I thought bugger it leave it in. So I won't have to lay plastic or anything under the ply? And yes the slab does have a vapour barrier Re: What to do with floor level 10Jan 16, 2015 7:01 pm Not sure how the ply was fixed to our concrete slab but I do remember that our timber floorboards were glued and secret nailed to the plywood all on top of a moisture barrier. The ply under our carpet was not perfect at the joins, small gaps but with good underlay can't tell what the sub floor is now Re: What to do with floor level 11Jan 16, 2015 7:26 pm radiuz Not sure how the ply was fixed to our concrete slab but I do remember that our timber floorboards were glued and secret nailed to the plywood all on top of a moisture barrier. I wasn't sure if just a butt join or yellow tongue is necessary for under carpet. isn't a garage level with the rest of the house a given? pretty sure they 'came around' long time ago. if you have a flat block, the garage is usually level with the rest… 1 17525 interesting situation what happened after builder issued final invoice? did you list as defect or not does the building surveyor have any responsibility? ie. issuing… 13 46957 they can, it's a fairly standard solution when the slab isn't recessed. the falls need to be in the main floor, if it hasn't been done then you need to ask them to redo… 4 6581 |
