Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 16, 2008 12:55 pm Well after only 3.5 years here in the nice big, new house we built we've decided to sell it!
It's all good. We've seen into the future we want (a bit more of a 'tree change' on a few acres of bush), and have decided that the best way for us to comfortably get what we want is to sell up (as long as we can get a fair price for our place) and rent for a couple of years. Our mortgage is currently costing us X per week, and if we put that same amount away each week for rent and save the remainder (X - rent), as well as putting our leftover balance after selling in a term deposit, we'll be a lot better off when it comes time to buy the next property (and we won't have the stress of trying to sell ours once we see something we like). As sad it will be to leave this place, and scary as the change is, we're really looking forward to this... Re: Don't want my house anymore... 3Jun 16, 2008 1:11 pm All the best!!!

Re: Don't want my house anymore... 7Jun 16, 2008 1:45 pm Well, at least you're in an area with pretty rapid growth and development happening atm (I almost consider Pakenham "out bush"!!! ) so hopefully you'll sell quickly. All the best. Will you build again, or buy something established? Solidarity, not solidity.......The Lexicon of Life Re: Don't want my house anymore... 8Jun 16, 2008 5:38 pm The places we've seen are not really any further out than where we are now, perhaps add 5-10 minutes driving time (currently we are only a couple of minutes from the freeway exit, so that will change slightly).
Probably buy something established and hope not to need to add too much to get what we want, but two years is a long way off... Re: Don't want my house anymore... 11Jun 16, 2008 9:57 pm Interesting strategy Rodda,
Have you considered - moving out and renting your current place out - given rent is on the increase I'd assume that the mortgage and rents should cover each other, you could then downgrade and pay less in rent, put the extra away, etc etc. while the current place equity potentially builds. But thats the catch. Potentially. I'd certainly be a strategy I would consioder though. Good luck with it all - whatever you do. Steve Re: Don't want my house anymore... 12Jun 16, 2008 10:23 pm Hi Steve.
There's actually a massive difference between what the mortgage costs and what rent would bring in. Rent on this place would be a bit over half what it's (our) mortgage payments are. And in the type of place we will rent after selling, the rent will be less than half... Re: Don't want my house anymore... 13Jun 16, 2008 10:31 pm Rod
We did the same thing and ended up spending more than we expected on the next property. Never managed to save as much as we wanted while renting. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. Re: Don't want my house anymore... 14Jun 16, 2008 10:34 pm Well Done Rod. I know you've been talking about moving a bit further out for a while. (lucky you!!! - I was envious of the large block you have in Packy!!!)
I hope it all works out well. Keep us informed of how its going! BTW, your house is absolutely gorgeous, you will have no issues selling something so beautiful! Congrats to you and the family, for making the big decision.
