Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 16, 2008 12:43 pm If you buy a block of land with a house on it, are you allowed to demolish it if you wish or do you need approval from the council or something?
We are looking at building again and demolishing a house on a nice block would be a great option for us as it would allow us to have a nice size block AND build the house we want. Can anyone shed some light on what the regulations are? Thanks Els Re: Demolishing a house - what are the regulations? 2Jun 16, 2008 1:08 pm You do have to get a permit from council first; our demolisher organised this for us.
But check with your council what their policy is; if you're in an area where there are lots of period homes and yours is one they may not let you. Ours was a post-war fibro ex-housing commission jobbie that they're knocking down all over the place to build townhouses on in our suburb, so we knew it wouldn't be a problem! Are you looking to build in the country? Welcome to the forum Re: Demolishing a house - what are the regulations? 3Jun 17, 2008 12:49 am Thank you
We built in a semi-rural estate (1 acre) two years ago but want to build again to get the house we really wanted in the first place (weatherboard style). I will check with the council about any plans for demolishing Thanks Els Re: Demolishing a house - what are the regulations? 5Jun 17, 2008 7:59 pm Els Thank you We built in a semi-rural estate (1 acre) two years ago but want to build again to get the house we really wanted in the first place (weatherboard style). Don't be silly
Yes, after only 2 years, and we are itching to move on and build an even better house! Nothing wrong with having dreams is there? Thanks Els Re: Demolishing a house - what are the regulations? 8Jun 18, 2008 7:43 pm Seen as though we will also be demolishing our home soon, can anyone give a rough time frame for how long it takes for demolition approval to be granted by council?
We get settlement in August and have a build scheduled for October, is 2 months enough time to get demolition approval and a building permit from council? Can we submit these prior to having settlement of the land? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Demolishing a house - what are the regulations? 9Jun 18, 2008 9:21 pm haywgl Seen as though we will also be demolishing our home soon, can anyone give a rough time frame for how long it takes for demolition approval to be granted by council? I think you can submit this before settlement, you just have to have all the documentations, we looked at this to put in the application for the shed before settlement to save time, but it didnt happen.
